p.2 #1 · D500 battery drain issues persist

Next thing to look at are media cards and settings. What cards do you have installed? And have you ever attempted a settings reset to see if it affects the issue?

I am using a Lexar 2933x 64gb XQD, and a Sandisk 32gb Extreme Pro, both are approved cards according to Nikon. I just did a master reset as a last resort, but I'm quite sure this camera is going off to Nikon in the morning.

Yep, definitely understandable. Before you do can you try the 1-hour test after the settings reset and report back your results?

After the two button reset, no lens, and all cards removed, after 1 hour my battery was at 77%, a little better, but still not good.

I would reference these experiments and how they differed from another D500. That should make it much clearer to Nikon vs a general statement of poor battery performance. Good luck with the service!

I like to have battery gripped bodies for the verticals I shoot mostly. I have an aftermarket battery grip for my D500 and I use the EN EL-18A (D5 battery) inside it. This battery is much larger than the standard battery and could solve your battery capacity problem.

In fact I use the EN EL 18a battery with my D800e, D4s and, of course my two D5 bodies too. So It is handy to have 5 bodies that use the same battery type.

Battery grip will give extra life, but doesn't really solve the problem of battery drain if there is actual problem in the camera. Best is too fix the problem with the camera itself.

I'm having the same problem with battery drain on my D500... What's the update on sending the camera to Nikon?

I did the 24 hour off test- actually- 36 hour test-and my D500 was down from 100% to 97%. More test coming. I would like the same info as SoonerCharlie on sending the camera back to Nikon.

I absolutely love the camera, except for the annoying card errors, occasionally not turning off when switching off the power, premature paint wear/chipping, and the battery life

If I had a camera doing those (except for paint, which is wear and tear), it would be back at Nikon.

I average a unacceptable 270 shots per charge, airplane mode, touch control off
