Yeah, I tried that setting, and others, no difference on mine.
I have the latest firmware, the one just released.
It’s really unusable the way it it working.
I’ll have to break out the GH5 and take another whirl at the comet.
The comet is super faint here too, cannot see with naked eye, barely see with binoculars..
TOTALY not viewable on my GFX50R with the random mega pixel noise.

I notice that a half-press of the shutter, the view is almost perfect, the best to be expected.

Something to do with AE?
I don’t use AE that I know of, I am always in manual.

I found it!
Of all the silly things, the Focus Mode Selector.
I have it always on M.
C, or S make all the wild random pixel noise disappear.
This is strange to me, but great, now I can go back to work.
From a reply on a different forum, a member suggested Focus Peaking setting is the reason this happens.
I checked, and he is correct.
Turn OFF Focus Peaking, and the random super noise on the display disappears in M mode, when high ISO, slow shutter settings are used in low light.
Makes sense to me now.

My wife was trying a new recipe - an "airy" olive oil cake (somewhat challenging because of all the oil), so I thought I'd try the automatic focus bracketing to show the surface detail. The crust on top is actually caramelized sugar, and plenty of air holes are visible, so that's a good sign. Unfortunately, we now have to wait for it to cool before cutting into it.
