p.1 #1 · Brush Fire

I captured this scene of sage and grasses receiving first light in the Owens Valley a couple of weeks ago. The clouds were not cooperating so i decided to focus on intimate scenes. This is a focus stack of three images shot at @200mm. Comments appreciated. Thanks

Absolutely beautiful! Have been following your Owens Valley/Sierra pictures recently, Dave, and all are great, but this one is magical to me. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Dave,

The light on the grasses is spectacular, and the color contrast in the bushes really sets off the grass.

You know, I'm liking this the more I see. Maybe try this do a 16x10 cropping from the bottom and balancing out the 1/3 or 1/4 with the muted sage equal to the other 3 "zones" above it. Is there anything behind the trees, or is it a distraction?

Wonderful explosion of colors - with each layer blending into the other. Very pleasing to look at!

Thanks for your thoughtful input. I see your point and I may try to play from some alternative crops. Yeah, the background above the top of the frame gets rather messy.

Thanks, Jeffery. Still a bit too early for flowers in the Owens Valley but they should be popping by late April with all the rain.

Beautiful image with the perfect moment of light. I would crop the top trees to make it even more abstract and print large .
