"Sparks L o n g"
For 2 years I lived in Bend, Oregon, about 35 minutes from here and shot the area so often sometimes I would get bored. On this occasion I just felt like experimenting and decided to put my 10 stop nd filter on and wait for the very first hint of sunset color, then shoot a 7-10 minute exposure. What I did not count on was the explosion of color that lit up the whole sky with many incredible variations. The peak of the show lasted about 6-7 minutes. The forest fires in the area certainly had a contribution to the crazy colors and saturation witnessed. Now having said that, this image looks nothing like what I described (or saw) because it is the average of 7 minutes of the entire color show. That is one thing I LOVE about photography and keeps me interested after doing it for my sole profession for over 10 years now. Breaking the "rules" and experimenting! I think never stopping experimenting and thinking outside the box helps us keep things fun and sometimes even unique.
For the for techie type:
The image was processed on a Mac 27 inch Thunderbolt, calibrated with the i1Display to 2.2 gamma, 6500 White Point and 125cd (Candelas/Brightness/Luminance) with a canvas color of 82,82,82 (the same as the FredMiranda site). I also view on Chrome...

Oh lastly, this month's issue of Landscape Photography Magazine did an interview with me if you are interested. They don't let us post links here, so, if interested, maybe do a Google search. The magazine is awesome IMO. It comes as a PDF download. Tons of truly inspiring work and articles in it.
Great light to you all!
