I shot this at Ballet Chicago in January shortly after doing this dancer's, and a few others', headshots and position shots for their audition portfolio. It's always fun to take them into a studio and figure out a way to make the lights work with whatever poses and positions or jumps they do.
This particular shot was lit by two gridded Einsteins, one camera right directly in line with the dancer and high up above her, lighting her face, arms and the front of the leg going up. The second light is camera left, also directly in line with the dancer that was used to highlight her legs.
Always helps to have a dancer of this caliber. Comments welcome.
C&C wise, the only thing I noticed is some of the background peaking through. For instance in the upper right corner there's a triangle shaped something, horizonally across the middle of the image there's a wide swath of something with hard lines stretching across the image, and behind her left foot I see something else. I think if these weren't perfectly straight lines, I may not notice them but as it, they kind of jump out at me.
All that said, it's STILL a great image! Really well done!

Thanks for your feedback, Jonathan! This is shot in a dance studio, so what you might be seeing is a dance barre and other things related to this particular studio. The way I lit it, and the way I edited it, I tried to deemphasize the background as much as possible but I wasn't terribly concerned with completely removing the background.
I will take another look at it once I pull it up in my computer again. If it is distracting, I definitely will want to clean it up, so I appreciate your mentioning it to me.
Great image, the thing that jumps out at me the most is her left bicep and forearm is a little bright. I would have done a little dodging and burning to tone it down and shape it a little more.

Sorry.... somehow missed your post! The arm is bright. I hadn't really noticed it before, but will pull it back into LR and take a look at it. Thanks for pointing this out!

Nice! I agree with glowhunter's edit and I appreciate how gracefully you accept constructive criticism.
Thanks, Doug. One of the reasons I post here is so other photographers can look my images over with a different perspective than my own. I often miss things. Don't get me wrong, I love the pats on the back, but I also really appreciate the feedback. I'm not always going to agree with a critique (differences in styles, whether editing or photography), but often I do.
