Out in the middle of Kansas farmland, where the trains and Milky Way roam at night. I knew when I saw the Milky Way on the side of the road after driving for nearly 2 hours through rain that I had to grab a photo before more clouds rolled in. Luckily an active rail line was perfectly facing the Milky Way where the clouds parted. I timed the oncoming trains to illuminate the rails as it was a mile down the tracks.
That is a pretty cool presentation of the Milky Way - really like the impression of the oncoming train! My only suggestion is to clone out the airplane trail just above the light.

That is incredible, I doubt I could stand there with a tripod making a 30 second exposure with that train barreling down. Great job, fantastic image.
Thanks John! Luckily the track was very straight, so I was able to get the shot while the train was at a "safe distance". =)

Crazy that you didnt get apocalyptic flare while shooting that. Love the end result. Next time just use a big flashlight instead of the train

Thanks so much! I did get some wild flare with my 14-24mm. What I did to fix that was layer in the light of the train and simply mask out the other massive flares. I am very happy with how simple the process was!
This is really cool and very creative. Way to go here.
You have my vote.

Hi Jim,
That means a lot coming from you, thank you so much for taking a look. I knew when I had the Milky Way and tracks in the scene the train light would really make the "mood' of the shot.
