We, 3 shooting buddies of mine and myself, were in Bosque last January and it was my 7th trip to that migratory bird sanctuary in the last 10 years or so. Unlike the previous visits, due to shooting circumstances, I ended up getting more mood or environmental images rather than closeup images. Yes, the weather, of course, played a role in the shooting conditions; the only sunset that was remarkable happened on the first day. To a certain degree, some of the images look more like landscape images with the birds just happened to be in the composition. Actually, it won't hurt to change the pace since I got plenty of closeup and BIF images from the previous trips.
Thank you for stopping by and please feel free to C & C.

While there we hooked up with the residence expert, Will @ trenchmonkey and we spent some time shooting and doing something else . It would be great if more FMers can get together for the next season. Although it is still far away and we have not done anything to that effect, but we are thinking out loud of going there starting in the weekend of December 3, 2017 this time around. We try to schedule our visit to coincide with the full moon. If we are lucky we can get a few sandhill cranes flying in the front of the full moon at both moon set and moon rise.

Thank you very much, Roberta! Your name came up while we were there. Would you be interested in joining an FM trip to Bosque in the first weekend of December 2017? It would be awesome if you could do it. Yes, I know, it is still far away... but it won't hurt to plan ahead.

I would love to go back to Bosque. Will definitely try and make it if I can.
I can relate to the environmental shots. When I was there the birds were far away for the 500mm so most of my shots were of the environmental type as well.

Yowza!! Great set, Joshua...you done yourself and NM proud here.
Folks will marvel at the beauty and most will be willing to overlook some of
the company you chose to keep. Had to peek twice at that 1st shot, as
it looks like the sun's beginning to rise...IN THE WEST Really like the 2nd
as it's tough to get that spacing AND a perfect backdrop. Good job, buddy.

Excellent vision to see these shots and then of course the technical proficiency to execute them! Personally, I prefer these wider compositions that you have presented here and Bobby showcased in his thread. Much of what makes Bosque special is the setting, and you have done it justice, Joshua!
On a side note, I happened to be seated next to Art Morris when flying back from the Falklands. I asked him why he skipped Bosque this year, and he told me that he had some philosophical differences with refuge management and that he might not be coming out there any longer. I just thought that was interesting.

Thank you again, Roberta! I noticed that the refuge management starts out to "harvest" the field in the strip closer to the loop path/outlook first. So, the birds would be closer to the spectators/photographers earlier in the season. Hence the first week of December would be more promising, so I hope.

Great set Joshua and ya got me vote! It was a refreshing change to be shooting these environmental images, isn't it? Just have to adjust and adapt to whatever Mother Nature throws at you!

WTF? Just kidding ..... Not! You are right - we have to stop calling on The Monkey!

Thank you very much, Mitesh! I am happy that you like the images. Let's get and shoot together in Bosque next December then!
I happened to be on the same trip with Artie and a few FMers to South Georgia and Falkland islands a few years back. We had fun shooting together with him even when he was a participant on the trip.
