The "extension" for the opportunity to see quetzals in a completely different area away from our base location in the Sarapiqui region was not planned and just added in the last minute while we were driving back to San Jose. We gambled and we were rewarded and all that on the very last day. We packed our gear, fought the horrible traffic jam on the way to the airport and we were on our flight back home. It was worth it!
This male resplendent quetzal was perching only for seconds on that branch while having "breakfast". Although it moved around in search of berries (mini avocados, actually) but that was the only opportunity for me to capture that bird showing its red breast plumage and I fired off several shots as it looked around showing both sides of his profile . Then, he flew away and landed somewhere else nearby and this time around showing his other side. Talking about me getting lucky to be able to capture both sides within minutes!
