p.1 #1 · Got really lucky and that on the last day
The "extension" for the opportunity to see quetzals in a completely different area away from our base location in the Sarapiqui region was not planned and just added in the last minute while we were driving back to San Jose. We gambled and we were rewarded and all that on the very last day. We packed our gear, fought the horrible traffic jam on the way to the airport and we were on our flight back home. It was worth it!
This male resplendent quetzal was perching only for seconds on that branch while having "breakfast". Although it moved around in search of berries (mini avocados, actually) but that was the only opportunity for me to capture that bird showing its red breast plumage and I fired off several shots as it looked around showing both sides of his profile . Then, he flew away and landed somewhere else nearby and this time around showing his other side. Talking about me getting lucky to be able to capture both sides within minutes!
Thank you for stopping by and please feel free to C&C,
Joshua

A great adventure and very nice shots of the bird. Also a good thing you didn't miss your flight because of it.
Thank you, Ed! And yes, we were worried but fortunately we made it to the airport on time.

Thank you, Geoff! Great and if you plan ahead then it shouldn't be a problem and 3 days will give you ample opportunity to capture this wonderful bird.

Good work Joshua, can't beat "right place-right time" , no matter the rush it may cause. Well done!
Leon, I appreciate your flattering comment. Long time no see. Do you feel like getting together at Bosque this December?
