Today Dan Heitman and I went to under the bridge by Castle Mountain in my eternal pursuit of the perfect Castle Mountain picture. It was quite cool (-25c) despite the forecast of good weather. My fingers were numb after setting the camera up and my feet were numb after walking through the water.
Here are my best from this am. Comments and feedback are appreciated. Scott

Wonderful Scott - I love the first one with the fluffy snow and reflection. I was there last week (similar temperatures) and it really is a beautiful sight in the winter.

Bravo, Scott!! The first one is my favorite and all the images are prefect to my eyes!
When I was in Canadian Rockies, almost all the time it was -35.. and I suffered a lot.

Very nice Scott.
Although I feel number one is the clear winner here.
Speaking of, I just realized that you haven't won a feature thread yet for Nature & Wildlife... Which surprises me a little bit, considering some of your bear and moose shots.. I didn't realize all three winners were landscape.

Great atmosphere Scott. I can almost feel the mist in the air. The reflection on #1 adds more interest to the image and it's my personal favorite.
Congrats!

Great work Scott. All are awesome with the second one my favorite. The trees to the left give that added eye movement to the composition.
You have been shooting with this camera and lens for sometime. How you
noticed any IQ degradation for prints with this combo?
Glad you like 2 - it is one of my favorite spots but it requires standing in the water to about shin depth and that gets quite cold on a cold day. It is more like a -5 picture
I really like the 5dsr and the ts17 is absolutely my favorite lens, with shifting. My ts17 looks like it has been through a war - dropped a few times, I have to check decentreing and fix it from time to time, the tilt does not work, but it consistently takes the best pictures of all my lens and 17mm is just the right mm for most times in the mountains. Degradation in TS/5dsr is related to field curvature. I focus to the middle edge with live view and it works better than focusing in the centre. And I use f11 which brings the astigmatism down and give me great depth (except on the 1st one). I have carried my ts17 several 1000 km by now hiking/backpacking.
I have the zeiss 15 but I can't stand the bowed trees.
In short I have not noticed degradation with 5dsr and ts17 - I think its the best lens combination for uwa in the mountains.

dwa652: My daughter is heading back to Austin today (UT masters Tax Accounting) so its good to know she will enjoy the upgrade in temperature. Glad you like 1 - I don't normally do reflections but I thought I would try it. Much appreciated. Scott
kylebarendrick: I am glad you like the first one. I will look for your reflections posted here. It is a great spot that keeps getting busier. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Kee - I am sorry I missed you. It was a great christmas for me with all my kids at home but I was sicker than a dog with pneumonia - but better now. I have not been sick for so long that I thought I was immune from colds/flu - not. My wife the nurse would not let me leave the house. Glad you like 1. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. #1 for me - I can feel the frosty air just looking at that crystal snow on the rocks! I also like the composition of #1 best.

Glad you like the frosty air in 1. My preferences lean more to big wide vistas but this one seemed to work. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

I am glad you like 1.
Landscape is really my love (with Nature a very second close) because I just love exploring and being out hiking and backpacking. And Its is tougher to win in nature than landscape because of the diverse focuses - some like birds, some like big animals, some like macro - and the number of posts is way higher. And grizzly and wolves are tough to get posed with good exposure vs birds for obvious reasons. I will just have to try harder. Thanks for your encouragement. Scott

Fred Miranda: Glad you like the mist in the air and interests in 1. I could feel them on my face Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
Brian Woolf: Glad you like the foreground interests and reflection interests in 1. I guess I just have to learn to lie down in the water to get better pictures. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

I like the whole set. #1 is my personal favorite, the mist, the lighting on the mountain and the reflection of the lighting really makes the image stand out to me. Looks like a great day.
