I planned to go shoot some star trails by an abandoned cottage in Finnish Lapland and that went a bit south - first I got heavy clouds moving around but they mostly vanished after an hour or two (who counts anyway...) and then some minor aurora decided to pop up. It was not the most beautiful aurora storm even but I decided to take an exposure anyway.
So I went and lit up the cottage ruins from inside and as the windows were completely frozen the outcome was some really eerie light shining thru and lighting up the snow around.
Yep, sometimes it's the simple, quiet scenes that attract a viewer the most. A scene that "screams" at you is impressive on Instagram or 500PX, but this is the type of image that winds up standing the test of time as it hangs on your wall in actual print form. Well done!
[Edit] If I may... I'd suggest cropping the top off, maybe getting down to 16:9 or even 1:2, so that you can get rid of some of that severe black vignetting / gradient, and allow the viewer's eye to focus more on the cabin and the aurora. That'd be a gorgeous print!
Thank you very much for each and everyone for watching the commenting. I aimed for "light" processing as the auroras themselves were quite silent at the time. I have "overdone" many auroras earlier and they kind of miss their point totally in the long run.
I got to the cabin by going around the house and pressing tightly against the walls as there was a narrow area with not much snow right there that was hidden when viewed from shooting position. Actually it took me almost 30 minutes to do properly
Matthew, yes *exactly*, I have a cropped version which is going for print soon. It looks pretty dang nice as low ISO foreground holds smooth details all over.
