Cool light....crappy work on my part...
No I wouldn't say crappy, silhouettes are nice. only #3 lost some of the silhouette look, she seemed close to you. I like silhouette photos, they have a dream use your imagination aspect.
I like the last the best as some of the dress is translucent and is reflected nicely in the water. I think the rock works against the images as it sort of intrudes on my view of your wife. The dark quality on the right seems a bit strong especially considering how dark your subject is. I also think a pure silhouette would work better if she were wearing a more defined outfit with strong lines. I would be tempted to give her a little more detail to see more of the textures and folds of her outfit and the hint of a face. This is a bold, creative set so may not be quite to my taste.
I shot some similar photos recently. Let me offer a suggestion, though some of my guesses may be wrong...
It looks to me like you lowered the black point, in say LightRoom to get your wife to be a silhouette. My observation on my own photo was that when I did this, I darkened the background more than I wanted to, in addition to darkening the part I actually wanted as a silhouette.
A way to work around that would be to go back to your original photo and then select only the dark areas, perhaps in Photoshop. Then push only the darkest areas (or maybe only the foreground) to black, rather than pushing the black level over the whole image.
I may have guessed wrong on how you post-processed this, so my advice may be worth what you paid.
Thanks!!!
upchotog....thats right, thats exactly what i did. I don't have PS and my editing skills are very small, so i just KISS(keep it simple stupid) . Maybe in the future ill have tie to take some editing classes and learn more.
In terms of content, #3 is the strongest. The Dutch angle combined with the motion/emotion in her hand gives it a really interesting vibe. It has a sense of immediacy about it. Very striking.
