So of course I was outside photographing waxwings in the morning and then went to get some lunch. Came back and noticed most of them were flying away from their smorgasbord of berries they had found. I soon found out why as this cute little fox was running at them and trying to snatch one for his lunch.
I'll share the waxwings later but here is the fox...
You know how much I love these guys....just beautiful images with soft luscious fur and perfect contrast to the snow.
I do wish I was there photographing this beautiful creature.

It doesn't look like the fox is skittish, at least, not that skittish, considering that you could capture it using a bare 400mm lens. Absolutely gorgeous images, Geoff - well done!

It was a little hesitant as I was standing up but then I knelt down for a better angle and it came right up to me. I didn't have anything to give it but I wish I did as it was a cold, cold day.
That is some fine light and what a gorgeous coat on that creature. And such clean snow! That 400 looks great. If all your shots with that lens are as good, then I seriously have to consider buying that lens.

Thanks Don
The 400DOII is up there with the best of them. Better at 400 f/4 than my 3002.8II was at 420 f/4. Better at 560 than the 300 was at 600. And I loved the 300 at all of its focal lengths. It is about the same at 800 as my 300 was at 600 for sharpness but AF is a bit slower with f/8. However the 1DX2 makes up for that f/8 issue.
I'm sure Eric will let you borrow his while you guys freeze your buts off waiting for polar bear cubs
I'm glad you withstood the temps to bring us these shots! Beautiful animals and you cannot beat the setting. The orange is on fire against that pure white.
I'd love to permanently borrow that 400mm as well.
