p.1 #1 · 3D 360° product photography equipment

Does anyone know/have a 3D 360° product photography machine that is compatible with Nikon camera's?
Ortery makes one that is only compatible with some low-end Canon's.
3D 360° product photography equipment
https://www.ortery.com/photography-equipment/3d-photography/3d-multiarm-2000/

Use is mainly for fashion accessories.
Normal 360° equipement is easy to find, but we also need 3D to be able to have a top view.

Any help is highly appreciated!

If you have experience in this department also please share.

You might want to checkout Iconasys (http://iconasys.com) - im a photographer using their 360 turntable/software with my Nikons (D300, D800)l. I had looked at Ortery during my information search but the reviews on their software and price point caused me to shy away. I went with the medium turntable and it was $1198 shipped. I am very happy with the Iconasys equipment up to this point.

I have not had a need for the 3D photos yet however i would guess you could just use a tripod (ideally one with a boom for top down shooting as well) at different heights/angles then use their 'ghost image live view feature' to match up correct focal length for each angle. Their 360 View Creator Software can also do the 3D image composition if im not mistaken.

Here is a link to their turntable page: https://iconasys.com/360-product-photography-turntables-and-software/

Did you look at ortery's photo arms?

https://www.ortery.com/photography-equipment/3d-photography/3d-photoarm-2000/

Not cheap, but less expensive than some of the other solutions out there...

I started to wonder if you even read my OP here... I stated that I looked at Ortery, and I included the EXACT link you are posting in my OP!

I have been using Ortery's photobox for almost 10 years now, and their software just plain sucks for a professional. No RAW support and terrible (non scaleable) image preview.
I have updated the software yearly, every time hoping they fixed this, but they don't improve at all. They also showed me their new photography tables and the software is even worse than the magic wand tool in Photoshop.

Also, I kinda need a plug and play solution as it has to be used in production environments all over the world. Budget is around 2500$ for the machine without camera's/lenses, but it's quite flexible.

Looks interesting, then I should only need some kind of arm to attach to the turntable with camera's.

EDIT: I send them an email to get a little more information about the workflow with their software.

Hi,
that seems like kind of a harsh response for somebody who was just trying to help you out. You posted a link to their multi arm - I posted one to their photo arm...

I had to ask about the 3-D thing because that is kind of loaded as I know guys who are doing these sorts of image sets with 3-D cameras (you gotta love the terminology slip I guess), and wondered if maybe you were trying to do 3-d stuff with that rig or something - you didn't mention you needed high volume, so....

I agree completely with your observations about Ortery's software - I have nothing but problems with it (its a pain to try and get everything set up with (the preview is awful), seems to crash regularly (end up having to reboot my computer every 5 image sets or so to prevent it going south), no real raw support, resizing issues, etc etc), and usually end up reprocessing from the raw files from scratch and then recropping to match using one of the "final" images from ortery - I used to rename them to match and try and use the html ortery generated, but now I just use other software to create what I need - manually knocking them out is a pain though :-(

I'm confused by your comments about Ortery's camera body support - their turntable sw controls my D800s just fine (well, when the sw works...). I've never tried to use their spherical imaging extensions

Best of Luck finding a plug-and-play solution at that price - its no big deal if you just need single row of shots (many turntables out there), but if you want a spherical image, the price seems to go up fast :-/

Here's a few links I followed when I started doing these (that still seem to be live)

http://www.snap36.com/
http://www.spinme.co.uk/
http://www.peaceriverstudios.com/17_object/obindex.html

There must be some other guys doing this now, but...

Good Luck on your search,
Best,
rkg

Thanks, we ended up using the Ortery equipment by just starting up the program so the lights turn on and then using a program like Lightroom for actually taking the images and doing the processing. Then do a batch import into photoshop to remove background and we have a much better endresult than Ortery's software because we can use color callibration with X-rite equipment and the program's use RAW instead of JPEG-only with Ortery.

Ortery's new software (for the 360° work and 3D 360 images) doesn't support ANY Nikon camera. We also use D800E's for almost all of our photography. D7000's when we need very fast end results as they have much faster file transfer due to the small file size.
Both are natively supported in their Photobox software, but not their new software.

Thanks for all those links! I'll check them all out.

The person that replied to my email seems very unknowledgeable...

Email:

Hey xxxxxxx,

The Nikon D800E is not compatible with the software. Please take a look at the compatible camera list below. Many of our videos, images were shot using a simple Canon T5.

https://iconasys.com/shutter-stream-360-product-photography-software-overview/specifications/
==> This page says that the D800E is supported!

Calibration, yes you can save pre-crop makers, overlays, output settings, along with camera settings. You can calibrate/save an infinite amount of these, you can load these whenever needed, for any situation. The link below describes some of the main features/calibration functionality.

==> I clearly stated a color callibration file and he starts talking about crops, overlays and output settings?

https://iconasys.com/shutter-stream-360-product-photography-software-overview/360-product-photography-features/

We don’t have a camera arm, we recommend using a tripod. For 360 images, once your settings are made, you simply press play and everything can be automated. Users define the number of frames ex 36, and the turntable will rotate every 10 degrees or so, stop, take a picture, and continue rotating until the next angle. For still images you press the snap button and the software will trigger the camera to snap a picture.

For lighting, we have a variety of solutions. What type of products are you shooting, how large are they?

In the previous email we both communicated about using this for shoes, from children to lady boots.

Thanks!

Hi,
I can confirm i am having no issues with the D800 - not sure why they said its not supported when they clearly list it? Maybe a new employee

Regarding color calibration file - i do not require this nor have ever tested so I cannot provide an answer.

Hello guys
I'm new here. I found this post researching google.

I have few turntable models but for now it works only in my studio.
I'm IT, foto and uav freaks and make some custom stuff with equipment and software.

You can put, hold up products on platform (1m, 1.5m, or 4-5m) and use one scaled arm (one arm for 1m or 4 m turntable).

I have some custom software for easy manage spin images.

I prefer use software like lightroom in workflow. There is more posibilities in my opinion.

Few examples is there (sorry, for now only in Polish):
www.aerofreak.com
www.realizacje.aerofreak.com

Small products (3D, 5 rows):
http://aerofreak.com/article/viewspin/id/703

Big product, only 2 rows, but 2 state (look at mask)
http://aerofreak.com/article/viewspin/id/624

Heavy, holds up product:
http://aerofreak.com/article/viewspin/id/687
http://aerofreak.com/article/viewspin/id/821

And very big and havy product in 3D.
+- 3,7m length, +- 1000kg weight,
6 rows and 2 state.
http://aerofreak.com/article/viewspin/id/795

There is rack case for control turntables and arms. For now there is control by remote pad (from playstation)

What do you think about this?

Sorry for English mistakes

Cheers
