I generally use OEM batteries, but Nikon sure is proud of their new EN-EL15 batteries. Anyone using a third party battery with good success? I have one "Green Extreme" branded one that came with a camera in a bundle from B&H or Adorama a few years ago that I use some and it seems to perform fairly consistent with the Nikon batteries. There are so many cheap garbage batteries out there, it is hard to know if any of the third party options are reputable/safe. Anyone have success with a third party option? What brand? Do they play nice with Nikon bodies and chargers?
Third party battery providers shot themselves in the foot with fake reviews. Now you can't sort anything out. I was looking for one, but after more time than I care to admit decided I can make due without.
For what it's worth this one actually scores an A on fakespot, which is about as good as you can do.
6% 1 star versus 1% for the Nikon. At $20 seems like it's worth the gamble.
If you're not planning on getting a D500...
Wasabi makes a great EN-EL15 clone. Ran over
100K thru D7000's with them spec shootin' rodeo
a few years ago. Still using them in the grips of my
D810/800, D600, and D7200's. All still read (0)

Wasabi redesigned their EN-EL15 batteries and charger. These new ones are fully compatible with D500, I have these new ones and they work great in the D500.

I have a couple after TM recommended them!
One of them failed on me and Wasabi replaced it with no problems.

Didn't know that! I wish I hadn't bought my 2 extra watson battery before I got my D500
Last fall I purchased two Watson EN-EL15 and both failed in 6-8 months. First they would discharge quickly and now they don't hold a charge. They were used in D750 bodies along with OEM EN-EL15's which continue to rock along.
The OEM batteries are $48 currently. Do I wish they were $30, sure, but $48 is far less than batteries were for my D3 bodies and they last longer.
I have no experience with Wasabi. PS I notice the Watson says not compatible with D500 (on B&H website).
I have purchased Wasabi batteries for every camera except my D7200. I have been very happy with them.
Usually I buy the 2 batteries and charger kit. For most canera/ battery models that is about $26.
For the EN-EL15 it is $42, which is pretty close to 1 Nikon OEM EN-EL15. So I just bought an extra Nikon battery and called it a day.
Two good batteries that last over 1k shots each are enough for my needs. I also have an older EN-EL15 that is reading at "3", but it is there as an extra backup.
Why pay 3000/3500 USD, for camera and lens ( D500 + 200-500) and try to save 20 USD on 1 battery ( I get 3 extra batteries from B&H 4 years ago - Pearstone, Power2000, Watson > and never open boxes ) I just prefer make sure that my expensive equipment is not affected by third party batteries >>>>

With Nikon battery I could shoot easily more than 1300 photos (and more than that )
How other batteries work - well - answer yourself and do a math - how many Nikon batteries you need to shoot 5000 photos and how many when using any other brand.
And yes brands matter ( Less $$$ = Less quality >>> most of the time )
