A superb weekend for sure. Beautiful images. Such a range. To name a few, the Mormon Barn is spectacular. The close-ups of the pronghorns in the falling snow have a special feeling for these animals facing the onset of winter. You can feel a cold melancholy from the moose in the darkly colorful late fall landscape. So many great accomplishments in such a short time. You must be elated.

Thanks John! It was my first time in the Tetons and needless to say I could have made a portfolio of work just out of the images I got while I was there! Definitely quite elated with what I was able to accomplish. Loss of the D810 though took the wind out of the sails a bit.

Nice! So jealous that you saw grizzlies. We were only in YS for a few days, but saw few predators. Nice mooses (not sure how you say the plural of moose!).

I believe the plural is still just Moose.

Sorry to hear about the gear, but you captured some great images here. Lost count of how many were my favorites.

What a great outing you had!! All shots are gorgeous. That first pronghorn is infested with ticks, looks like. I've been to Yellowstone a number of times but never on down to the Tetons. Maybe someday. Sorry about the mishap with the camera.

Thanks Mike! Time to start looking for a new D810 but I can't complain about what I came away with!

Thanks Sue! I noticed the ticks too. Both Pronghorn males I found in the snow that day had the same issues. One was just on the one side, the other, on both sides. I tried to get into Yellowstone but the places we wanted to go required snow tires so we didn't make it up. Next time! Camera mishaps happen but I still cant figure out how that tripod fell over as I had already stabilized it and taken shots. Walked up the river to grab my bag and splash, the camera and lens are toast.

Did you drop you D810 in the water at Schwabacker's Landing?!? I literally was there shooting as well and cringed so hard for you! Sorry about your luck, but great shots regardless!

I didn't drop it, a tripod I was just given as a gift collapsed towards the water. Took out both the D810 and the 20/1.8G.

Your work is magnificent and I like your idea about pre-mapping your agenda.

Sorry yeah, I saw it happen from a distance. Glad you got great shots though. We only saw grizzly from like a mile away, you were lucky!

Thanks Mike! With all of the useful information out there these days I started simple by mapping the park based on landscapes that I wanted to capture at predawn and first light. I used a custom built map via Google Maps. From there I began searching through forums and books where hot spots based on the seasons would be for various mammals. I then made a wildlife map separate from the landscape map that I could turn on and off. From there it was all luck and searching my points of interest. Once I had luck in those areas I made note. I also learned of some new places from the locals and from the travels through the park so that next year I may have similar luck in my quest!

Yep nothing I can do about it. Stuff happens all the time to everyone. I had just wrapped shooting my 3rd location along Schwabacher's that morning when I went up the stream to grab my bag and then it tipped. AFTER I had already shot the location. It was one of the more flat locations along the stream too. And as a bonus the cards were not damaged. All in all the camera and lens were only under for a few quick seconds....Some how the 20mm got moss into it through 2 stacked filters and being attached to the body. Camera still powers on but the backscreen is useless and the card slots will not write. At least it wasn't my D4s or any of my more expensive lenses. Currently in the market for a replacement camera though! I need to decide now between the D810 and its cheaper counterparts the D800e or D800.....

Wow, an amazing set. Love them all, #18 Pronghorn in the snow! I haven't been to the Tetons in years, this makes me want to go back.
