No exposure meter, no batteries, no problem! The Nikkormat FS is photography in its purest form!

F601 QD with Nikkor 135 f2 AI and Velvia 50. The lens is a bit heavy for the smalllish F601.

NightOwl Cat, Many thanks, it worked! I have been wanting to upload stuff for years, and never knew how. This shot was a recent one. Location is the covered bridge at Valley Forge National park. Camera was Nikon FA, 28mm f2.8 ai-s, aperture F11, Kodak tri-x pushed to 800 ISO. Shutter was probably 1/125. Thanks, Mike

Here is a kodachrome from 1987. The boys Mike(age nine), Matt (seven), and John(three), are now forty one, thirty nine, and thirty three. They were the best times. The only saving grace for digital, is that it provides a means of displaying the wonders of kodachrome. This was shot with my FA, and probably the 50mm f1.4 ai-s.

This thread needs another Nikon film camera to ponder. Cross posted from the manual focus thread:

Manual focusing test with the Nikon N8008. Quite a nice camera from exactly three decades ago. Very solid feel, nice large viewfinder with the standard focus dot helping with manual focusing. This was with an AI-converted 10.5cm f2.5 P, and Walgreen ISO 400 film (just came free with the ~$12 camera). Has plenty of bells and whistles, including depth of field preview (I used it yesterday trying to do macros), timer, 30s-1/8000s exposure. And an online reputation for reliability, as well as of sturdiness, which is reinforced by its solid, dense feel.

Also, an online review I found for the N8008/F801:

I was just doing some reading about Digital vs Film, the biggest thread running through various articles is if you delete a Digital photo or numerous ones, it cost nothing. Was the camera free? Is maitainence free? Are accesories, lens, batteries etc. free?
There is a finite amount of shutter accuisations before it has to be replaced and every one brings you closer to that day, so are they really free or are just putting the cost off to later? Plus technoligy dictates your camers is obslete after 3-5 years if not less

Almost no one is keeping a digital camera long enough to have the shutter fail anymore. Anyways, this is a cool thread I didn't know ever existed, I can contribute a little bit

Free I suppose is relative. The cost per photo if your only consumables are shutter replacements becomes pretty trivial. Film and processing costs make shooting 35mm and getting good scans not far off from instant film for cost/frame--which is also a bit absurd. Simply put, there is no economic argument for shooting film in 2024.
