I was checking this place out and I wasn't ready to take more serious photography with my main gear still packed when it poured. And how it poured! There were quite a few hummingbirds flying around there and to my delight, instead of taking shelter, they actually went into the rain. This little guy was perching on a fern frond that swayed back and forth in the wind and it looked like it really enjoyed the shower nature provided. The lens I had, a zoom lens reaching only to 300mm didn't feel quite adequate at that time but after looking at the result, I was pleased with the coverage. It shows more of the surrounding, including those big rain drops. I also shot a video clip of the hummer while taking a shower. What a treat it was!
By the time I was ready with my main gear and set everything up on the tripod, the rain stopped . Of course! The second image of that guy after the shower while shaking water off, just like dogs do, and the third image shows that his feather was still wet...

Wow. They're all great, but that last one is excellent!!!
How do you like using such a monster lens on that camera?
Thank you, Yemil!
Actually, I do have two 400mm lenses. I bought this monster several years ago although I realized that the reach is on the short side for wildlife but I do love the fast aperture. After I made the plan to go to Costa Rica earlier in the year, I bought a (new to me) 400mm DO II lens. I was totally convinced that the smaller lens would be perfect for me as I am not the youngest anymore. Although that lens is quite a bit smaller and lighter but at f/4, the aperture did not feel quite adequate since I knew that the lighting conditions in CR would be more subdued than, let's say in Southern California. So, two days before the actual trip, I decided to take the bigger lens. I was willing to put up with the weight and bulk for a faster aperture. And I didn't regret that move. That adapted lens focused swiftly and in 90% of the time it did what I hoped it to do. As I mentioned earlier some place here, I would take this lens in combo with my mirrorless system to locations, such as CR, Panama or Ecuador for wildlife but I would not take it to Africa on safari or for strictly BIF purposes.
