Batis 18 is my only Batis, and I love it. I may eventually get the 25 and 40 -- I love the Zeiss images. It is fun to have AF primes of the quality of MF primes.
Thank you very much, Jim! All Batis lenses are great performers but for various reasons, they have fallen out of favor among Sony users.
Tight space indoor with plenty of mirrors inside a place that no longer exists in Venice, Italy during the mask carnival 6 years ago - I was truly glad and felt really great that I had the Batis 25mm with me on that trip to the rescue. I took a lot of images and most of them didn't get edited, like this one that I edited today.

Wow, stunning image Joshua!
I think the Batis line may have fallen out of favour amongst many Sony shooters, because they prefer the ergos/haptics of other lenses, not because of the image quality per se. Indeed, the 25mmf/2, is probably the most maligned in the range, unfairly, in my opinion. Sure, the 24mmf/1.4GM takes the overall smooth rendering crown, but I think at least some of the criticism I see online for the Batis 25, is due to people misunderstanding Zeiss' design priorities for the lens: they wanted a flat field landscape lens, with even sharpness performance across the frame - even if that meant sacrificing some central sharpness to get that - and that is where many erroneously conclude its 'not sharp', as they are used to lenses like the GM or Loxia 25 which are blisteringly sharp in the center.
That said, a good copy of the Batis 25 can be competative with lenses like the Loxia's: DxO's results here show its not too far away from the Loxia 21 (they haven't tested the Loxia 25 yet), and as you've shown, in the right hands, can even be used for portraiture!

Thank you very much, Peter! Yes, I believe your opinion why Batis lenses have fallen out of favor is largely on the money. I may add another factor that adds to that condition… the price factor. Not relative to the Sony, especially GM line but more to 3rd party offerings, especially from Sigma.

There is only one therapy that can help. Buy the Batis a second time...
Haha, yes, true but there is a limit of what I can carry and use at one time... This is captured using another Batis lens I miss but I am pleased with the replacement lens, too.
