Congratulations to friscoron for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 6 votes - View Previous Winners

One thing I've really loved about my seven years on FM are the relationships I've developed in real life through this mystical online forum. Last month, Bob flew in to Chicago from New Jersey so I could do an outdoor session with his granddaughter, Nina, and a studio session. It was so wonderful to meet Bob in person and his beautiful granddaughter was just an extension of him. Such a good time spending two days with them, and so happy I got to introduce them to Chicago deep-dish pizza!

Here are some shots. Comments are welcome, but please keep in mind the subject is an FMer's granddaughter.

Ron, both Nina and I had such a great time with you, raining when we landed at Chicago on that Wednesday, but you told us, "Don't worry, everything will be Ok", and it was. Thanks for sharing some of the thought process that you went into with each shot, thanks for the dinner with you and your wife, I must admit the pizza was pretty good. Studio session the next morning was enlightening, to say the least. Great time, Great shots, the overall experience exceeded my wildest imagination. Thanks again
Bob n Nina

I would agree that #10 is just a fantastic shot. I also like #12. Something about the ease and naturalness of the presentation brings out her sweet personality. While I like all the others in terms of compositions and poses, I find the saturation level is a bit too strong for my taste in a few particularly #2 and #3. If you dropped back the reds in #1 and gave them a darker appearance, I think the dancer might stand out a bit more. The silhouettes are very well shot but seem to have some outlining with color distortion. So, my sense is the less you went for the wow factor with processing the more wow the images are. My two cents. For that reason, I also like #9. Though she has a serious expression, the colors look very good with the well saturated red outfit helping her pop from the brick background.

These are great Ron!

Favs are 5,8, 10,11, 12

I haven't met any FM friends in person, but I enjoy the friendships I've made here.

A fine set. And what a pretty smile in the last two.

As always, you do those silhouettes very well.

#2 is an interesting shot that you did well. Lots of "busy" in the background and off to the side, but she still stands out so well against that background.

Appreciate the comments and nits. I'm going to revisit No. 2 and see what I can do about pulling back the color in the railing esp in the foreground. The greens, I'm okay with. I'll take another look at 3, too. I do agree with you that sometimes less is more. Wasn't trying to make the skies anything more than what they are in the silhouettes. I'm thinking the outlining/color distortion that you're seeing is simply the sun's backlighting on my subject. I shoot these silhouettes a lot and I like when I set them against a dark background and get that glow on therm. Really appreciate the nits, definitely will give it another look.

I saw #6 and said, "Wow. This is it." Then I saw #7 and said, "Nope, this is it." And then #8 and said the same thing. I love the 3 silhouettes, with #8 probably my overall favorite. After that I like #10. Interesting pose.

Lovely set!

Thanks for sharing.

3, 10 & 12 for me. It's difficult to choose a favorite when all of them jump off the screen.
Great set!

Thanks, Bill! Nina was amazing, all I had to do was hit the shutter. Those silhouettes were a lot of fun, tho! I'm such a sucker for them.
