I think this is interesting, but the difficulty with EF lenses is how do you set the aperture. The fotodiox adapter that has been announced doesn't have any way to do that, and metabones, for now anyway, has told people they do not intend to make an electronic EF lens to GFX camera adapter. Maybe someone else will make such an adapter. Novoflex might be a good candidate. They generally make good adapters and they have an electronic EF lens to Leica SL camera adapter. If you like the Sigma 85 results in the link you might be able to use a different mount. I think you might be better off with the Nikon mount, but I don't know the details of that particular lens in Nikon mount and the details do matter for adapting Nikon lenses. Some have aperture rings and would be easy to mount and use others have electronic control of the aperture....Show more →
I emailed Cambo and asked if their upcoming Actus version for the GFX would allow the use of their Canon lens board with electronic aperture control. They sent me a very detailled answer. I really like Cambos open way to respond to customer questions and discuss possible future products. Here is what they said about the Actus and Canon lenses:
"The Fujifilm G mount has a focal flange distance (FFD) of 26.7mm, the Canon lens has a FFD of 44.0mm, than you will have a distance 17.3mm left, this is not enough space to construct a front and rear frame including a bellows to achieve tilt, swing and shift movements. So unfortunately within the Actus system it in physically impossible to use Canon lenses on the Fujifilm GFX camera.
Therefore we are thinking about designing an fixed adapter between the GFX camera and Canon lenses, this way the Canon TS-E lenses can be used on the GFX and you have still some tilt/swing and shift options for the TS-E lens itself. "
So when Metabones does not plan to do something for Canon lenses with aperture control - it looks like Cambo might do that. For my TS-Es I even prefer a fixed adapter to the Actus solution. If you want that too: send Cambo an E-Mail and request for such a product.

I think the issue with the Otus on the GFX will be whether the image circle is big enough. It may be, but it may not be.
Back a couple years ago while researching the H-Cam Master TS adapter, IIRC, the designer indicated the Otus 55 was tried and found to have a limited image circle size. At least in respect to tilt/shift usefulness. Seems the usable image circle isn't all that much larger than that needed for 24x36mm, therefore may not work optimally on mini-MF. Some of the lenses that do work well on that adapter include the Canon 16-35/4 after removal of the rear baffle, as well as a similarly modified 11-24/4. IIRC, for their tests, the 16-35/4 was enduser modified but the 11-24 was modified by Canon.
A couple lenses I'd be curious about on mini-MF that weren't on your list, Steve, include the Leica R 80/1.4 and highly unlikely due to rarity, but potentially cool: Nikkor 300/2.
Also, back a number of years ago, a member here adapted the Canon FD 85/1.2L to Mamiya 645. Of course, infinity focus was not possible, but at nearer distances, the lens covered the 645 (film) format. I have a feeling we're going to see this lens on the Fuji a fair amount...

What I was referring to, however, was the issue with the Otus in Roger's testing with different glass in the path and the issue when either too much glass (4mm in Roger's test) or too little (no glass in roger's test) are the one's described in the link I provided. Here you see effect until f/2 or so and the effect is across the whole image field including the centre.
Gotcha. I thought you were saying that the sensor glass was going to affect performance on GFX.

~60 mm f/0.9 equivalent, that would be cool. Guess the FD SSC ASPH has a similar image circle to the FD L.
The Voigtländer 58 /1.4 SL is promising as well (tested with A7r and shift adapter).

That is good information to have, Ron. I think we are going to have to test quite a few lenses to see which work and do not work. Those Canon zooms are interesting as they will result in very wide angle possibilities and I have wondered about the Leica R 80 lux and the M 75 Lux as they could be very interesting and you wouldn't need performance at infinity for these lenses either. The Nikon 300 f/2 would be crazy with a 4 X 3 crop of about 240mm and an aperture of f/1.5, but it is pretty crazy on 35mm FF anyway. Since they go for about $20,000 I doubt we will see anyone pick one up, but I think Popflash has one for sale if someone wants one--at least they did when I went through their listings a few weeks ago.
More seriously for me I think these ultrafast options are not likely where I will go with lenses, but having slower lenses with very good depth of field possibilities and few aberrations ought to be very nice. A lens like the Mamiya 645 200 f/2.8 APO to me hits the sweet spot for performance, minimal aberrations, and price.

Thanks for the update Marc. In my experience Cambo has been fabulous in dealing with customers. It is one of the reasons I will probably give them my money for their system for the GFX. Personally, I probably wouldn't get the EF adapter, but it is very cool of them to consider making one.

I am now a little concerned that there may be insufficient distance then to use my Leica R lenses with the Fujifilm GFX and the Cambo Actus version of the camera. The Leica R lenses have a flange distance of 47mm and the Fujifilm GFX has a flange distance of 26.7mm. That would yield a working distance of 20.3mm. I am not sure if that would be sufficient for both the lens and camera body standard of the Cambo Actus to allow for shift, rise, fall, tilt, and swing with the camera bellows. If this would provide insufficient ability with the bellows to use my Leica R lenses with the Cambo Actus, this would decrease the likelihood of my purchasing the Fujifilm GFX but would just continue to use these lenses with my Sony A7r cameras and wait for the release of the A7rIII. The Sony A7 flange distance is 18mm and this results in 29mm for a working distance.

I think there are two things that can give you some hope of using your Leica R lenses. First, you can always use them with an adapter and a simple dumb adapter should work fine. It looks like Fotodiox will make one as it was included in the ad that I saw posted even though it was not included in the first batch of adapters. Second, the extra 3mm for Leica R over Canon EF may be just enough. As far as using much tilt or shift, I am not sure how many lenses will have enough of an image circle to do much tilt and shift work. You really need an image circle of 70mm to get 11/9mm of shift and even that isn't all that much. Since FF 35mm is only 43mm, you need a lens that has a 27mm larger image circle than is needed for FF 35mm to be very useful for the GFX. That is a lot to ask, and tilt shift for long lenses, where in the image circle tends to larger for my uses anyway isn't as helpful. So for me, I don't even think the R 28mm f/3.5 Super Angulon would be much of a tilt shift lens on the GFX. It only as a 62mm image circle and you can already see in the MTFs that the performance deteriorates quickly as you move to the edge of that image circle. You really only just barely get the 55mm image circle (if that I think it will work better cropped to 3 X 2 or 4 X5). You might be able to use the Leica R 100 AME as it has a large image circle by your reports and might well have decent image quality all the way out to 70mm or so, but even that lens I think we will have to see what the quality of that image circle is like out away from the 43mm image circle of 35mm full frame. Frankly there are so many great 100 and 120mm for the 645 image circle and larger (e.g., the Mamiya 120 f/4 APO Macro; the Contax 645 120 f/4 APO Macro; the Schneider 120 f/5.6 Digital APO Macro; and the Rodenstock 100 f/4 Digaron-S) that I can't see for my uses getting the Leica R 100 AME for the Fuji as great as it is for 35mm FF.
I guess that is a long way to say that I think Leica R lenses can be great on the GFX, but i don't think they make much sense with the Cambo Actus. I do think they make a lot of sense with a regular adapter and as non-tilt shift lenses, and in your case you have some nice Schneider lenses that ought to be very nice with the GFX and Cambo Actus if you get the camera,.

Hi Steve,
I will reserve judgement on the Leica R lenses when used with the Fujifilm GFX when used with the Cambo Actus. I would still have the ability to use my Rodenstock and Schneider enlarger lenses and my Rodenstock and Schneider LF/digital lenses with the GFX and Actus combination. The Leica lenses that I would miss using with the combination would be my R 28mm f2.8 Super Angulon PC lens, Leica R 100mm f2.8 Apo-Macro-Elmarit, and my Leica R 180mm f3.4 Apo Telyt lenses. If possible, I would be reluctant use my Leica R280mm f4 Apo Telyt lenses with this combination. All of these lenses would work fine with a dumb adapter for the GFX as just a camera body.

For those near Brisbane, there is new GFX 50S demo with full set of lenses to try out in DigiDirect Brisbane. Fuji is placing GFX bodies with full set of current lenses as demos in some stores.
Hopefully I will be visiting in the next few days to play with the GFX and take some test shots.
Does anyone know how to post process the RAW files yet?

Most definitely There are no issues in taking a SD card to capture the RAW and Jpegs. I was discussing this afternoon with Rick, the manager and he mentioned he is really impressed with ergonomics and feel of the GFX. He said it feels surprisingly light with the lenses. He was fortunate to play around with the pre-production model couple months ago. It should be a lot of fun !!

I'm looking forward to someone putting the Noctilux-M 50/0.95 or the SLR magic 50/0.95 on a wafer thin adapter in order to go "full retard" on DOF - 36mm f/0.69 equivalent (of course it seems unlikely that either lens will completely cover the fame, meaning you'll have to crop and lose a little bit).
Can anyone do better? I know there are some f/1.0 projector lenses, and f/0.75 x-ray lenses (which are extremely soft as they're not designed for the visible spectrum), anyone know the image circle for of the Zeiss 50/0.7?

I have heard that Capture One is going to support the GFX and I suspect they might have RAW conversion before Adobe, but that is just a guess.

For aperture probably not, but for thin depth of field the king will probably be the Nikon 300 f/2. At 220mm f/1.5 FF 35mm equivalent that will probably have the thinnest depth of field and I would expect it to cover the image circle.
More practically, I really really hope my Leica M 50 cron AA covers the image circle. One advertisement from Fotodiox listed a M adapter as coming (so I am sure someone will put the Noctilux on this camera whether it covers the image circle or not), and for my purposes I would love an approximately 35mm f/1.5 equivalent with the sharpness and colour correction of the 50 cron AA for portraits.

Well if you're going by entrance pupil alone then there are a few lenses that will beat the Nikon 300mm f/2, namely the Sigma 200-500mm f/2.8 and the Canon 1200mm f/5.6
You can also get close to the 300mm f/2 for a lot less money with a 400mm f/2.8 which will also be much easier to find for sale (I saw an FD 400/2.8 on eBay for £700, to this day I still regret not buying it).

Thanks Charles. I am going to wait a bit to see some sample images with the 32-64mm. My main use for this camera would be for WA landscape type shooting. One of my challenges will be to find a wide angle zoom (or primes) to replace my often used 16-35mm range...
