OK. I would expect that Leica R lenses would tend to normally have larger ICs than FF lenses made by many other makers. Leica was known for this years ago even when it was found that with modification that the Leica R 560mm f6.8 Telyt lens would cover the Pentax 6X7 film cameras.

24 X 36 = 24 X 32 to achieve 4:3

33 X 44 = 33 X 44 to achieve 4:3
(1452)
1452 / 768 = 1.9X
For a 1:1
24 X 24
(576)
33 X 33
(1089)
1089 / 576 = 1.9X
But only 1.5 at a 3:2. Granted, a lot of formats are more square.
I'd like to see an adaptor for a 80-90mm 1.4/1.2 FF lens, and use it in the standard lanscape mode to take cropped portrait pictures. Having to turn the camera, even with a vg still isn't as useful as a natively 'level' camera.

I couldn't tell from the pics ... where did they put the video button?
I would like to start things off with just the 32-64, but I doubt you could get body & 32-64 for $8K (although, if they price it aggressively, I think they'll be in a position take a bit of market share from a whole bunch of folks from Hassy to Canon to Nikon to Sony to Pentax to Leica ... well, maybe not the die-hard Red Dot groupies
Any guesses for FPS ... I'll go with 7 @ 1/2 the XT-2's 14.
Price, I'm guessing (well, maybe wishing) $7200 for the body, and $7999 for the body + standard (63). I wouldn't be surprised if the came in as low as $6,700 (body only) to say "FF CaNikon or MF Fuji ... and make it a tougher choice for folks around that price point / performance, but that might be a bit far fetched.

If they're using the same processors as in the XT2 and XP2 it'll most likely be about half, maybe less. Assuming everything else is equal of course. I think you're right pricewise, they'd likely have to compromise too much to actually match high end dslr prices.

So you thinking of coming over to Fuji Rusty?
It would be very fitting for me to do so, I believe.
I had a pretty good run with my Kodak SLR/C and used to shoot Fuji film extensively. I have a respect for the two iconic film makers understanding of color. The prospect of one for slow (MF) and one for go (XT-2) bodes very well on paper ... that could be a very long term setup if done right. I have an appreciation for tonality of MF glass ... and with the ergonomics and viewing screen options, etc., I'm thinking that this is a VERY WELL thought out return to a more "purely photographic" endeavor.
The fact that Fuji has chosen to skip over FF bodes well to my way of thinking also of one for slow, one for go with significant diff between APS-C and MF rather than the much closer diffs that FF would provide.
I've always like Fuji glass too and have had an eye to Fuji for many years going back to the S3 / S5 (but I wasn't an F mount guy, nor was there much UWA offering for APS-C back then).
Now that they've moved off APS-C ... gotta start saving some pennies and do some serious soul searching. I had been watching for Sony to bring the A9 in this kind of ergonomic FF format, but I think this is even more to my long term goals. And their choice @ 32-64 for the zoom ... sweet spot for me (adding in the 23 later).

Seems to me that would feel really unstable, but he's hand-holding it. Anyone else ever use one of those in this particular fashion?
Yes, and it is a very cumbersome contraption imo. Maybe the EVF was not ready in time for him to use. To me, the big deal about the removable and adjustable EVF system is to not deal with this type of situation.

Keeping in mind the current price for the Pentax 645Z with the same sensor is just under $7K, I would be surprised if this Fuji was not at that same price. I'm really curious to see what all of this competition does to pricing.

I think the APS-C and miniMF pairing of formats was a really smart strategy as well. It allows them to skip the crowded FF market for the high end and the APS-C market is a larger market and yields significant size & cost benefits. Yeah I also respect the two iconic filmmakers as well, we always speculated that we thought at most one of the two would survive the digital transition and be healthy again. Fujifilm certainly seems healthy and back to their innovative ways. My Dad also loved Fuji glass as well

I have been trying to figure out the size and weight and from interpolating images, so far my guesstimate is:
Width: 153.6 mm
Height with VF: 118 mm
Height without VF: 94.5 mm
Depth without back: 41.7 mm
Depth with back: 55.6 mm
I may have under estimated the back thickness, but at max I would think 60-65mm
Weight 700 gms based on the same density ratio as for the XT2.
If this is real, I am very interested
They likely stuck some extra thick heat sinks in there after the sensor of the XP2 came in over it's thermal target for heat generation causing them to drop 4k. They actually made a form factor change for the XT2 and beefed up the heat sink to get 4k video into it. It looks like an awesome camera system It's like a 'supersized' XT2

Excellent Charles--good conclusion...man I do hope you're right. A MF camera (even if crop) is to be wonderful. I am very curious if we'll get 16 bit on this, and what type of DR we'll get. Anything over 25MP is fine by me (more always welcome) and the a7rII/5dmIV/D810/K1 are fine for me for high ISO, but I'd love 16 stops...
I've owned an x-pro 1, xe-1, xt-1 and xe-2 but the crop and x-trans caused me to leave...this is so exciting.

For me the best way to think about it is that because of the difference in format 4:3 vs. 3:2, the crop factor is different depending on how you crop. If you crop to 4 X 3 or squarer, then the crop factor is .73X of FF 35mm or said the other way around FF 35mm is a 1.37X crop of this mini MF sensor. If you crop to 3 X 2 or a longer rectangle then the crop factor is .82X of FF 35mm or said the other way around FF 35mm is a 1.22X crop of this Mini MF sensor. If you don't crop to the same dimension, then it is probably best to use the diagonal, then the crop factor is .79X of FF 35mm or said the other way FF 35mm is a 1.27 X crop of this Mini MF sensor. If you want to translate that thinking about depth of field as well. Cropping to 4 X 3 or squarer the Mini MF gets almost a full stop less depth of field (a crop factor of 1.41x is exactly 1 stop), a crop to 3 X 2 or longer gets very close to a half stop less depth of field, and if you don't crop them the same and use the diagonal then the Mini MF format gets you about 2/3rds of a stop less depth of field for the same aperture.

Really depends on the price of the mini MF. Right now you can purchase a nice full frame camera for roughly $3,500. If the mini MF price is double this...then that is a big negative which will leave a lot of potential photogs sitting on the sidelines.
I'm interested to see the actual advantage in prints by these mini MF cameras compared to the latest high end full frame cameras ( 5dsr, A7R2 ). It might be a case of extreme diminishing returns compared to the price.

+1 @ 645Z pricing, maybe Fuji will go even deeper to simply tell the rest of the world ... "Take that."
I'd hope that the price would come down after the initial offering ... but, if it is a big hit, it may not. Either way, I'd have to make a significant commitment away from Canon to fund such a retooling. Not something to take lightly by any means, but if it turns out to be the "right one" for me ... then it's worth it. Good thing it doesn't come out till next year ... time to start putting back some pennies and selling off some things. If it's really the one ... I could go with a CC, but I've always been a cash guy for my cameras / lenses ... so this could be a quantum leap for me. And to think I was just getting acquainted with the 80D.

Cost/benefit tradeoff is always a factor even though it is downplayed often. People will need to examine their own particular use cases & photographic pursuits and determine how that tradeoff works for them personally. For others it may be more of a business decision. Either way it looks like one hell of a camera system and having another good choice is a good thing.
