Canons EOS-1D X Mark II ships with a battery having greater capacity than any previous battery for EOS-1D series cameras. The Battery Pack LP-E19 has about 10% greater capacity than its predecessor, but still can be used in EOS-1D and EOS-1Ds models as far back as the Mark III versions.

It's important to note that you cannot charge the new battery LP-E19 batteries with the old chargers. The old batteries, LP-E4 and LP-E4n, however, can be charged with the new charger LC-E19.

Simple: old chargers can't charge new battery, which is why I travel only with old batteries because the new charger doesn't support the 12V car battery plug that all the old chargers had... Upsetting.

Very upsetting. The AC plug price is also very upsetting. Ridiculous actually. It's just plain silly they can charge hundreds of for a simple device that consists of 30 bucks worth of parts, just because it's targeted at 1D users who they suppose can afford whatever they ask. I understand R&D has to be paid back and maybe only 1 : 100 1Dx2 owners get one but still...
Thinking about that... How many 1Dx2 bodies do we think canon produces in total? I know the 1D series make up only the tip of the iceberg and x0D and x00D series bulk is their main profit maker. So how many? If there will be one 1Dx2 per 25000 people (I live in a 25,000 population town) in industrialised regions that is still well over 100,000 copies, of which about 10,000 in the US.

And there is a lot of truth in that - we sometimes 'reach up' to buy a better class of camera not leaving a lot of, or any, money for extra cards, batteries and other nice-to-have accessories.

Oh that sucks! The 12V port is extremely useful when charging from solar. In my case I use a Goal Zero Sherpa battery and connect it directly to the charger. Very efficient.
