I timed my trip into the John Muir Wilderness backcountry to coincide with the full moon cycle last month. Here are two images taken approx. 20 and 10 minutes before sunrise respectively. I captured several images with alpenglow on the Sierra crest and with the moon was properly composed but prefer the less contrasty pre-dawn glow with the more stylized over-exposed moon. Appreciate any comments, suggestions or critiques and any preferences between the two images. Thanks
Wonderful images! I'll pick the first as my favorite too, probably because it has more water and mountain reflection than the second image. But both are great!

I like the first one.
The first one for me is one of those rare occurrences where having the moon more toward the center of the frame actually works better (in my opinion).
No 1 has more impact and grabs the viewer's attention. The symmetry with the stronger object of foreground interest and dramatic scene with deeper colours makes it a powerful image.
Dave, I really like these shots. Very nicely done. I prefer, by a nose, #2 with the gentle curve of the alpine tarn. Thanks for sharing and great job with the PP.

So I have no idea where these places are but both shots are great. I will have to explore this are one day. I'm in Bishop 10 times a year but hardly go into the backcountry. Thanks for sharing...
