I've had a pair of Redheaded woodies visiting our feeders for some time now. Shooting through a window costs too much IQ. If I try going outside, they fly immediately. So yesterday I set up my pop up blind to see if that would work. They did not show yesterday or this morning, (Did I mention that the temps have been hovering around 90F and that it's even hotter in the blind? Anyway, a few other critters did show up including this Pileated woody. So here are a few from the blind.
Nice shots Ron. As you know the red-headed woodies are playing games with us, I have the same problem here. Looks like the usual suspects except for Mr. Hairy.
Nice shots Ron! Yes the blind deal is hot as Hedoublehockeysticks I also have a pair of Redheads and some youngsters coming to the backyard but no shots yet! Jealous of the Big woody's you have though
TFS......Dave
Congrats on the pileated Ron. I had the same problem where they spooked when I stepped outside. My solution was windex and paper towels on both sides of the glass. I would use the house as a blind and shoot out of various windows.
Good job, Ron. Its hot up here, too. Seems our birds have all gone boreal to beat the heat. You managed some good stuff in a tough environment. Thanks for sharing.

Thanx Eric. I did have five different woodies around the feeders at the same time the other day: Pileated on the suet with a Downy, Hairy, Red Bellied, and Readhead waiting for a turn.

Thanx Dave. I have seen two Reheads at the same time, but they fly different routes away from the suet every time, so I have not located the nest.
