This is another frame of the juvenile Great Horned Owl. It is very difficult to get this guys in the open on a good perch before the sun goes down. I was lucky here to catch this frame before the owl took off. I had to run up a hill and quick snap a frame, and the 400DO II's light weight was a blessing here!
1DX MKII 400 DO II + 2X III. ISO 5000. f/8 at 1/320sec. Hand held. Processed with DPP 4.4 and neat image. Hope you like it
That's a great shot. With a 2x TC @ f/8 how does the 1D X focus? I assume it has to be at least as good as the 1D4, I had great luck with that, a 1.4x TC, and the 100-400L.

The 1DX2 is significantly faster and more accurate at f/8 than the 1DX which itself was signficangtly faster than the 1D4 was, there is simply no comparison.
Good one, as stated... it takes a pretty lucky moment to catch a GHO out in the relative open with a decent perch. Even more interesting is, it stuck around long enough for you to snap off a shot even with you running towards it. Were you able to hide your aggressive approach with a bush or tree or was the juvi just comfortable enough to help out?

Thanks Mike, the Juvi waited for a minute before taking off which was enough to snap this frame luckily
