Cool comparison (58 & 200). Puts into perfect perspective the differences between these lenses for this type of shot, a popular type of shot too. Thanks for sharing.

I'm sorry, but I must have missed this. Where is the comparison shot between the 58 & 200?

Just for giggles, here are a couple of quick and dirty portraits I shot this evening of my very photogenic sister-in-law and her hubby. Sunlight was brutal - tried to tame it a little with some flash. Wide open Chubby and wide open 58. Which is which? (EXIF is stripped to prevent cheating!)

Out of interest what distance to subject are we talking here?

Roughly 12 feet with the 58 and 30 feet with the 200. Subject to background distance was the same in both (~4 feet). Much more compression with the 200, but both are eminently capable of blurring a distracting background or giving your subjects that 3D 'pop'.

Both looked good, I prefer the compression and sharpness of the 200 F2.

There's no getting away from the compression and sharpness of the 200, but some shots just work better with the 58:

Defnitely keeping both of them!

Even though we're all waiting for the shipment of this lens, I decided to start an image thread dedicated for Nikon 105mm f/1.4E ED.
I can assure you that along with Hardcore and DJ R, I will be very active on here

Here are the sample images from Nikon to start off with.

Those are three extremely well done shots. I especially like the 1st.

Thanks. Not the best photos ever, sunlight was a little 'hot', but good for comparison purposes.....
