It was my fault, at f/1.4 the plane of focus is absolutely tiny. Hard to keep it in focus. The second shot I posted has a flickr link, go look at that. The eyes in it are absolutely razor sharp. I can see myself and my white SUV in her eyes.
Awesome earthly and galactic photos in this thread.
Sharpness is not an issue with this lens.
Little Black Dress.
Nikon D810 and 105mm f/1.4e Lens.
f/1.4 1/320 iso 400.
Finally Finally Finally was able to get one in Thailand. Still haven't AF tuned it but it seems to be front focusing a touch (nothing too serious).
EDIT: Part of the reason for shooting cars was to get a sense of the AF speed. I'd say it's faster than my 85 1.8G, but slower than my 70-200 2.8VR2. So not the nearly instant lock of some faster glass, and not slow enough to impede getting shots.
I should probably take a break from posting to avoid overexposure of my stuff.
So here is the last photo I'll post for awhile.
About a 50% crop to get something close to a portrait.
Outdoors in downtown Honolulu, natural light.
Nikon d810, 105e, f/2.5, 1/320, iso 200.

Finally got my copy of the 105/1.4E today as well. Just took a few shots on the way home to try out the lens a bit.
Just love the 3D looks of this lens and I think this has to be the sharpest F1.4 lens that Nikon made. At least of all that I have ever tried anyhow.
I took a look at your pictures thinking 'that looks a lot like Bangkok', before I saw your location. Nice shots mate, and I like you am enjoying the sharpness, background separation and OOF transitions. Look forward to seeing more of your shots!

Definitely keep posting! I love that overexposed look. In fact, it's not overexposed, it's more of a high key, exposed for the skin look. Who cares about the rest...

Thanks. So far I really like the balance of the lens very much. Considering the weight but it is much easier to hold than say, 14-24 or other similarly weighted lenses. I definitely really love the way the lens separate the subject from the foreground and background. No complain so far.
PS some of your shots earlier were taken about 7-800m away from my apartment
I assume it was at Nana BTS station?
