I feel inclined to jump on this bandwagon and order this lens. I'm a 200mm f/2 owner and a 58mm f/1.4 hater (because I care too much about sharpness), and this lens seems like a nice sweet spot between the two. Keep the sample images coming!

My thoughts exactly. I loved the 58 but wished it was just a little sharper wide open. This seems to have similar bokeh but sharper and more compression, pretty much exactly what I was looking for.. This paired with my 28, 50 and 200 F2 I should be done buying lenses for a few years. I would upgrade the 28 and the 50 but I rarely ever use them.

Actually it's not, the picture looks like garbage period, the color, the noise, the softness, etc. All settings should be identical. You don't see pro's doing comparisons with totally different settings and background, for good reason.
If you want people to cooperate and take the time to do what you are asking.... which isn't as easy as you might think it is, then maybe try being a bit more polite.

You guys need to quit flipping out. I personally think the 105 1.4E is amazing also. I'm hanging onto my 200 F/2 though because sometimes I will want that extra compression. I will get this lens or something like it in the next year though when i'm not shooting someone in a field or water and want something lighter.
We are not flipping out. In fact, the only one I see getting worked up is you. It seems you're getting upset that the comparisons done by these fine people like Joseph are not up to your standards. Beggars can't be choosers, so why not just say thank you, read as much into the comparison as you can, and move on.

Very quick snaps with the 105E this morning & a comparo with the 200 f2 VR.
I am now convinced that this is indeed, a mini-Chub. I finally have a portable lens that renders like a Chub, and easier to compose environmental shots with. Love Love love this lens!! What took you so long, Nikon??
First 2 shots are from Chubino, last 2 shots are from Chub.
Adorable! And makes me even more anxious to finally get a 105.
I think this new lens looks great.
The samples are certainly nice and sharp wide open.
I use my 200mm for family shoots all the time and love the results. The 85mm accompanies me on these shoots as well. Looking at the samples here the 105 would be more suited with the 200 as the background compression is a bit better than the 85.
I think I will grab the new 105 and will be my 200 companion for outdoor shoots.
I use the 85 and Zeiss 135mm in the studio a fair bit. For me the 85 is a great length for business headshots and the 135 excells for beauty headshots.

Beats manually focusing on a DSLR for sure.
Eh I still will likely pick up my 55 Otus the majority of the time. It's a pure joy to MF and I've gotten fast. I will say this 105 is quite a bit slower than my previous 85mm f1.4G's; however that being said, so far it's more accurate. Chasing a toddler will tax just about any lens minus the Chubby though lol
Christmas in September... FedEx, UPS and USPS are showing up today with my D750, 20mm 1.8 & 105E! 58 1.4 showed up yesterday. The joys of a system swap...

Wow! What a change indeed. Do you think you will like Nikon over the previous system you had (canon, Sony, etc)?
Mail and UPS are coming today for me as well:
Really Right Stuff L-Bracket for my D810 and a Zeiss T* UV filter for my 105E.

Try Allen's camera up in Pennsylvania. That's where the goofy fella with the big Afro, Fro knows photo guy buys his stuff they may have some because he advertises for them. I'm not sure if you've seen any of his videos on YouTube or not, but he's funny. Jared is his name

Yeah, coming from a Sony A7RII system. I've done this before and the Nikon system is an overall better system. I've never owned a D750 but with everything I've read and seen I'm not too worried.

Camera Canada has a few in stock as of yesterday. Exchange rate is in our favor too. 1 year international warranty and 4 year Canadian warranty.
