Damn, I've got a pre-order in for the 105 1.4 and one of my local stores has just put up a used 200 f/2 VR with 12 months warranty for not a lot more than the 105......
I agree with Joseph. This lens is going to be fantastic. I hope I get off early on Friday the 26th and I hope that a copy arrives at the camera store for me on that day. Just look at that amazing aperture on this lens!. The width of this lens is wider than the 85 1.4G is long. Nearly 3 3/4 inches wide ! It makes the 85mm F1 .4 look small.

Put that $2000 (and $1600 more) towards a used 200mm F2.0 VR MKI.
Horses for courses. The 200mm is longer (better for outdoor sports and wildlife) and will almost certainly have faster AF. But how does it's bokeh stack up for portrait use? Both lenses will have situations where they produce more blur in the background than the other. For the 105mm lens, if your subject is close to the background, it will produce more bokeh than the 200mm. But if your subject is more than ~15 meters away from the background, the 200mm will produce more bokeh. So for a portrait or wedding photographer, both lenses may have a place in the bag.
Well, I traded in a couple of seldom used lenses and came home with a very nice 200mm f/2 VR yesterday with 12mth warranty. I still have the funds (more or less) for the pre-ordered 105E in hand, so fairly soon I'll have 58/105/200 in the bag. I'll have to see how the 200 works for me given it's not insubstantial heft, but it is the sharpest lens I've ever owned and it's ability to obliterate backgrounds is amazing. Off to the Chubby thread now for some inspiration.......
Did you guys read it all or just look at the images?
I don't think they are being represented as anything more than some quick test shots by one of the very few people who has had a chance to shoot with it. They are not Nikon's official samples. The images strike me as the only two they could take before being assaulted by a Nikon rep haha. Rendering/bokeh looks pretty awesome, as already mentioned it seems similar to the 58 which is a good thing.
I'm going to be honest, based on the pics I've seen, I'm not impressed. I don't like the bokeh at all. I recently shot with the Canon 135L last weekend on a 5D2 - both ancient by today's standards and the bokeh is absolutely gorgeous. The portraits look like painting. Again, not saying this lens cannot do that - because for the price Nikon is asking, it better hang with the 135L which I can buy for a mere $800. Hopefully once its released, we'll get outstanding shots.

Please never talk about about how awesome this combo is.
I am really trying to avoid having 28 1.8G (own), 58 1.4G (resisting temptation), 105 1.4G (giving in to temptation), 200 2 (own)...

WOW! Another one spotted using this lens on a film body!
Jokes aside, I did some testing and you can use E lenses at different apertures on film bodies or old DLSRs, you just have to have a newer DSLR with a DoF preview button. With the lens on the new camera, select the desired aperture and hit the DoF preview button. With that held down, click the unlock lens button and twist the lens off a little bit. Turn off the camera, remove the lens, and it's stopped down and ready to go for any camera you want.

If you have the money I would go for the 200 F2 in a second, while the 105 looks amazing, it doesn't compare to the 200 F2. As long as you are okay with the added weight.
