Shew, they do look good. Hopefully someone can post some 105 / 200 comparisons so I can see if I need to buy this lens... Similar photo's, similar processing, etc...

You can read all the reviews or see all the comparisons but in the end you just really have to make the plunge to find out if you really need to buy it.
There is nothing in the photos that will convey the ergonomics, working distance, focus speed and how well the rendering of the lens fits to your processing style for your shooting conditions.
That said, I will definitely be comparing the 105mm to the 200mm.

Yeah, I really want to see the comparison just for the heck of it. I doubt I will ever get rid of the 200 F2 unless Nikon brings out another 200 that is lighter and really good. But I might have to add the 105 1.4E to my collection.
Oh yeah!! Look at that bokehlisiousness!
Also, look at the transition of the concrete pattern... Only 105 seems to completely smooth out the pattern further down the sidewalk.
I'm wondering if anyone out there has shot both the new 105 and the 85 1.4G. I'm curious to hear how the 105 compares. I could never seem to get a great copy of the 85 and it was just not useable until about f2.2 or so.
I'm hoping the new lens is sharper. I can already see that the bokeh is just amazing.

Jonathan? Are you gonna buy this lens just to sell it later so you can get your feedback up to 1k?

there are some good comments in this thread somewhere on the comparison.
he said AF was about the same
you may have had a bad copy of the 85 1.4g
mine was sharp wide open.

hahaha I knew you'd jump in. My feedback no longer feels like something I should be proud of. It shows the degree of GAS/LLD I have and it's not getting better.

You're too late. I already texted him about it before he even posted anything on this thread
I will purposely send mine back to B&H just so I can buy his

This test is not very useful, imo. Differently sized subjects, which occupy a different percentage of the frame, 42MP sensor without AA filter vs. 24MP with filter, etc.
They have samples with quite smooth background bokeh.
There are also comparisons with Samyang 135/2 (manual focus) which is a bit sharper at f/2 than 105 at f/2 (well, their other review shows comparable sharpness of Samyang to Zeiss 135/2 Apo Sonnar).
I wish they would have at least had the guys stand in the same spot. I definitely like the 105 and the 135 the best, actually leaning towards the 105. I would rather it had been at 135, but I still prefer it over the Canon. I like the color better, and the way the bokeh starts to fade before it does on the 135. It just looks more pleasing to me. The 105 looked sharper to me than the 135.
