So you can see that 58/1.4G has much smoother background bokeh than 105/1.4E, but 105/1.4E has less noticeable edge than 200/2VR.
105/1.4E is closer to 85/1.4G than 58/1.4G.
Caveats: bokeh profile changes with distance Marianne's measurements do not show at which distance it has been measured.

Didn't they give you a tracking number? Mine was already shipped and it says I'll get it on Tuesday. Adorama rules!
no the web says:
In stock, order sent to warehouse Pending...
(since thursday night)
which means they got a pallet of goods.
they didn't have time to catalog all of the goods and get them out, since they close early friday (I think).
they do work sunday, but they can't get anything out on a sunday.
my guess is that they ship on monday, what they have, so elijah & I will have the mini chubs on tuesday.
So looking at the bokeh profile and samples, it's just as I thought. This lens renders much like the 85 1.4, more like the 85 1.4 than the 58 1.4, therefore I will be passing on this. If it was at 135 1.4 and rendered like this I would pick it up, but not at 105. At 105 it would have had to render like the 58, which it does not. I think my portrait lenses of choice will be the 58 and the 200 F2...

After looking at some of the initial shots...I like how this lens renders...but I don't love it.
Something is just missing...
I said this and got bashed. I think the lens looks great, but for the price tag on it, it doesn't wow me enough. There is something special about the 58, and the 200 F2, I don't quite see that with the samples from this lens.

Is it me or does this lens take flat images? It seems to me that this lens is a solution to a non issue.
Nikon is replacing the excellent 105DC made in Japan with ground glass with this overcooked version made in China with plastic body and molded glass. No thank you Nikon. Its all about corporate profit these days.
Watching a little much angry photographer these days?
First 2 shots... shot on D5. First shot... no crop. Second/ third shot... moderate crop.
Both wide open.
First impression... not as big as I thought ( I use the new 24-70 VR as my standard lens). Obviously slower focus compared to the new 24-70 VR (as expected).

The amount of confirmation bias and consternation and indecisiveness in your posts regarding this lens is impressive!!! Most shots I've seen so far are people testing out a brand new lens. I've yet to see a multitude of shots done in a professional capacity. They will come. I find it hilarious reading posts shitting all over a lens that most have zero experience with. I think you've made the case enough with yourself at this point that you like your 200F2 and don't need to spend anymore $$$. But watching your public wrangling of this decision with yourself has been amusing. Lastly I bet within 6-8 months you'll own this lens-so all of this overwrought handwringing is for naught!

Thank you.
Just what I wanted to say.
Ageless needs to keep calm and get the 105E.
(Heavy sarcasm) Terrible lens. You should definitely sell it quickly. Probably at a 50% loss just to make sure you can get rid of it! Pm me and I'll do my best to help rid you of this flat image processing lens. (/Heavy sarcasm)
Actually love the look of the images. Can't wait for my opportunity to try it out!
