The ability to get well focused images consistently at f1.4 with the D5 will be one of the key factors that will make me decide whether I keep the lens or not.
Less so with the D810 since I am sure we'll get the AF tech in a D900 within a few months.

I feel like the guy shot as fast as he could, just so he could be the first one to upload a review of this lens. I wanted to tell him to calm down and compose slowly
On the 3 comparison shots, there is a significant difference on background blur between the 85 and 105 - just look at the railing on the left. Thanks for posting!
Hmm, I agree with him the Tamron is a better bang for the buck, but the 105 is sharper and has better bokeh, i'm not sure what he expected with the focal length being so close. It actually impressed me. I would have bought the lens in a second if it was at 135 and 1.4, I will hold off a little while and see what the Tamron 115 1.4 looks like, and see if they bring out a 135 in the next year or so, if not, i'll probably pick up the 105. Loved not only the bokeh but that sharpness impressed me a lot.
I'm not understand the criticism of the motorcycle not being sharp, it was shot at ISO 1600. If it was shot at ISO 200 and that soft / fuzzy it would be a different story.
Breaking News... Adorama has charged my acct! Will the lens leave the streets of Noo Yohk as the sun rises up the horizon tomorrow, on its way to one epic photog in California? Stay tuned...

I would love to hear from someone who used / owned the Canon 135L to compare the to as far as sharpness and bokeh..
Checking the few shots available, I am convinced this lens should be compared to the 135 APO Sonnar rather than the 135L.
The Canon 135L is a wonderful lens for the price, but the Sonnar crushes it (apart from AF).
I too preordered from BH Photo the first day preorders were available and my status too said "In stock, order sent to warehouse Expedited delivery."
I chatted with two BH Photo reps today to clarify status and they said that I would receive the lens by Wed, Aug 31st. Ordered from California so I'm assuming that they'll ship Monday with 2 day shipping to California.

Which means I should receive it on Saturday or Monday at the latest...

The salesman, Ian at precision camera, preordered mine on July 27th well after 10:00 am and I'm glad mine arrived today. Had I not put a deposit down, I'd still be waiting another week or two.
So....maybe you'll get yours tomorrow. It all depends on how far away you live from the central hub of distribution in New York.

I couldn't resist to at least try the 105 and found a lens in stock at Unique Photo this afternoon and it's on the way to me now. I'll post up some comparisons with the Zeiss 135 ZF.2 when I have it next week.

May not be a need... I took some shots a few minutes ago using live view and though the 105mm is sharp, it's not near as sharp as the Zeiss lineup. I too have the Zeiss 135mm f/2 and that lens can't be beat, maybe by the Otus. The f/1.4 live view focus from the 105 is a bit soft, it's lacking that punch of the 135mm Zeiss. That's ok...I'll not be using the 105 wide open all the time like many on this thread will (they know who they are), it looks great at f/4 and f/2.8. It's an all around sweet lens.

Wondering how it compares to the 200 F2 as far as sharpness, or the Canon 135L
Very sharp to me.
I bought it, hoping to replace the heavy 200f2.
The compression is different from 200f2 but it's a nice shorter distance to work with
Balance better on a full size body.
