Well, I sold my Nikon 105MM F/1.4 recently. I feel that I got a lemon. After sending it into Nikon to have it cleaned, more dust started appearing underneath the front element and now behind the rear element. And in my frustration, I got rid of it instead of trying to fiddle with Nikon. I got mine just after it was released roughly right off the assembly line I guess... yesterday I purchased a new one and this one is clean. Nearly a year has gone by so the newly manufactured ones should be made with a lot more care. It's sharper and performs better than the first one that I had and I am much happier. I did some Astrophotography with it and some star testing and the stars are pinpoint even at f/1.4 to the extreme edges. The stars were fairly sharp to the edges with the previous copy, but even better with this one. I am very happy now, not that anyone cares, but I'm happy. Lol ...

Hopefully someone got a good deal on a lens that sounds like a lemon. Congrats on the good copy!

Thanks! I am anxious and ready to do some nice portrait work.. so far I have only been playing with it around the house and outside and taking multiple meaningless photos of the dog . The condition of the dust was getting on my nerves so much to where I didn't really want to use this lens anymore. Now that I have a new one, that performs better and is definitely sharper, excitement has started back up

How's the new example compare with the Sigma 135 1.8 Art?

The sigma is still sharper wide open, but this Nikon 105 is really close. If I were to stop the 105 down to f/2 it would pretty much equal the Sigma. I'm not sure what Sigma does to make their lenses sharper than Nikon and Canon at a lower cost, but they are good. Either way, the 105mm focal length is pretty much my favorite lens. I haven't done a side-by-side yet.

Just a couple of "Safe" photos from today's eclipse, same photo with a crop. I just wished I was able to get into the path of totality...

Your daughter is a natural talent for posing.
I have to wait a couple of years to see if my granddaughters are willing to pose.

Thank you Chris. She is my god daughter, and they are very close members of our family. Alex is only 9 years old and she has appeared on several magazines covers in Australia already Fortunately she is completely unaffected by the attention and this is the way her mother wishes it to remain.

I also have three grandsons that are not at the age of posing... yet

I had to look that up; "god daughter". ;D
We have quite a few "red-hairs" (my wife) in the family so this is a weak spot for me. It looks like my youngest granddaughter (5 months) is a "read-hair" too, but it can change.
My other granddaughter is 4,5 and she doesn't like to pose.
So only candids.

I bought this lens from Adorama a few weeks ago. Unlike my other Nikon lenses not purchased on the gray market, this one (and the 28 1.4e) does not have a "US" prefix on the serial number.

Could some of you other owners out there confirm this?

Thanks.

I also bought it recently from Adorama and mine does not have the US prefix either. I have heard that Nikon stopped adding US prefix to all their products.

I saw we got our 1st rattle Yeah, I know it's

I really like this one! Don't get caught up in the "wide open" hype. Shooting this lens wide open up close to subjects kind of sucks, there is a lot of fuzzy blooming and discoloration or low contrast. I mean it does ok, it's just not meant for close ups and it really needs to be stopped down when getting objects up close because of the thin depth of field. Good shot of the snake!
