Nice studio Laura. I hope the mirror in the bathroom isn't a 2-way mirror though.

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading this thread for months but only just registered. It's been a real eye opener as well as a great help in setting up my own studio.

Here are two shots of my humble studio all the way from Singapore:

Here's a look at the inside of the studio

And another view of the waiting area, computer and a peek of the kitchen

Just a simple setup I thought I might share with you guys.

Thanks!
Ervine

I'm currently putting together a home-studio in my basement (only place available)
15ftx 15ft

My gear just arrive 2 Alien Bee 1600
36X60" Large Softbox
48" OctaBox
20 & 40 degree Grid
Gel paper

What else do I need ??

I have a pair of 550ex (that working with B1600 as hair light & stuff)
1 shoot-thru Umberlla & 1 regular
a pair Studio pole.

I currently returning 1 of the B1600 and step down to B800 as fill.....
should I get 3rd light ? B400 or B800 alone with my 2nd order ?

Since I mange to get my 2 550ex in "Manual mode" working as part of the studio light (Radio Trigger)...... sort of like 4 Lights setup with 2 Bees.

Please help me
Thanks a million

What you need is like asking what you should wear today. It largely depends on the weather, right? If it's cold outside, you most likely need a coat. If it's raining, you need an umbrella.

When it comes to your photography gear, the same principles apply. What you need is based on your desired goals. If you want to do portraits, you're on the right track, but if you're trying to shoot weddings, the gear you have may not be completely correct.

In the end, you would need to clarify what your goals in photography are so we can answer your question in the right way. :-)

Thanks griffitg for the quick reply

Sorry forgot to mention, I'm into portriat & glamour/fashion stuff mainly
So the Key Light (B1600) will likely to power the Extra Large Softbox or Octabox.
The coming B800 will be use as fill (Medium Softbox or umbrella)
So.... thinking of using the 2 550EX (as background & hair) or do I need to use a 3rd Bees for background or Hair ?

Any suggestion ?

In addition I sometime do wedding stuff & mainly travel with my 2 550ex + ST-E2 .... but may explore the possibilty using Alien Bees on road in the future.

Thanks in advance
