It's funny, but I love stacking two lights vertically on one stand when shooting people, just getting the ability to deal with their face and body separately.
How do you stack two lights on one stand? I can't picture it..
Those things are indispensable...I keep two or three of them in my lighting bag for attaching lights to doors, ledges, tables, sprinkler pipes, whatever's handy.
hi could i get a reply as to where to purchase phillips natural light bulbs online?i'm from singapore and have been looking really hard for them so as to build the ringlights...

One light at the top of the stand attached normally, one lower down attached to one of the telescoped sections using a studded Bogen Superclamp.
I always discounted these because i didn't really believe they'd support the weight of my Bowens heads, figured they were for smaller heads running off a generator pack.
Reckon they'd hold the weight?
I've used a head on a background stand in front of another stand, but it's not exactly efficient!
I've had this thread bookmarked since around page 72 so I guess it's my turn.
Thanks to everyone for the information and inspiration within this thread.
bazz.
Apologies in advance for the poor studio shot but the room is tight and I had use a fisheye lens to get this much in shot. There a 2nd Bowens 500W monolight on camera right with a 100cm softbox on it wan't used for the below example.
They look, specifically, like Bowens Esprit 2's to me.. Same as mine
They do make lights for Calumet, rebranded under the Calumet name, but they're not quite as good.
Well, I got some AB800's about a month ago. Finally got the chance to set them up and try them out! I've never done any photo's under studio lights before, but this thread gave me the urge to try. Several hundred $$$$'s later we come up with this. (Apologize about using a link.)
First attempts. More to see if everything worked than anything serious. Don't have any willing participants yet to try a portrait so I had to settle for "borrowing" the wife's teapot.
Wow, what a great source of information going here. Looks like I won't be getting much sleep tonight
I had a quick question in regards to zoning laws. Seems like a lot of people have home set-ups and was wondering how all of that worked. I hope this is not going off-topic. If so, send me a PM and I'll edit.....
Wow. Some of these studios are fabulous, and some are simply fabulously inventive! ;-)
I am just starting my studio, and until I find adequate space I am considering the possibility of using my spare bedroom! The usable floor space is only 9x9, however! Anybody making this happen in their space? My backdrop stand supports 9x20 backdrops, so width I'm not too concerned about. It all makes me a little clausterphobic, and I'm not sure that 9x9 is enough space.

Seems to work well for us.
You will have to contact the City or County and check on zoning laws for your area to operate a business out of your home.
We contacted the City and applied for a business license, and was approved. The caveat was, don't create traffic congestion and don't create a nuisance for your neighbors. We can even display a small sign on the exterior of our house (but we don't.)
We then remodeled our 3 car garage with cabinetry, carpeting, heating and A/C, recessed lighting, insulation, electrical, networking, etc. After that we took out business liability and equipment insurance (many insurance companies will not cover in-home business losses and liability... so check with you insurance carrier.)
Its been several years now, we've renewed our license annually and continue to get along with our neightbors. :-)
Waaay back, someone mentioned using frosted glass and plexiglass. Do you just lay it on the horizontal surface and place the product on top? Is the plexiglass to get the slight reflection?
Just curious for a little more information on how to use and the effect they give.
