Not as amazing as some of the setups... but it works
Here's an example shot... don't critique as I just grabbed my wife and said " Hey... need a quick example shot for the forums". She ummed and ahhed and said a few choice words
I want to get into - for lack of a better term - naked portraits. By naked Portrait I mean, no make-up etc. The person for who they are and what they are with no excuses or flattery.
Throughout the day I see many interesteding faces that I really want to capture. I want to capture them in the moment because that is what they are.
Well I just stared putting my studio together, it will be a slowprocess but I'll get there, I plan on getting things on a weekly basis, basically what is left from my check, I have backdrop 9' seamless, custom wall mount, Plexi, Umbrellas(4Photoflex), Reflector and holder(photoflex as well), still need lights and stands, plan on going with 2 White Lightning X800, and 2 13' Air Stands, and later eventually adding Alien Bees for background, hair light ect. Also a Vagabond system, and a Photoflex 5' Octodome. The room i'm using is about 20' x 25'(all i have), walls are flat white. Well heres somepics, and I'll keep updating.
Hi Timothy. You have a decent spot to work with. I'm sure you'll have a great time. I was wondering where you found your plexiglass and what size it is? I know some people on this thread had to special mail-order their pieces.
Funny you ask, I got lucky and didn't have to buy it, when I moved into this house, there were 2 huge sheets of plexi in the garage which are now mine , your best bet would be to call any local class company, they all should carry it, they can get it for you, the piece I had a while ago was 8 x 6 and cost $267 from the local place.
As for sizes, when I found them there were 2 - 8x6's so I kept 1- 8x6, and cut the other : 1 - 4x6, and 1 - 2x2, the rest i used to make a window in my garage to replace one that was broken.
Anyone here ever rent out warehouse spaces to use for studios? I'm actually in the process of looking for some inexpensive, A/Ced warehouse space to use for studio space.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
Warehouses and studio lofts are nice. I remember when I lived in LA and used to be in front of the camera that the photographers I worked with often rented warehouse type buildings to shoot in. It worked out well. It be nice if I could find something like that to rent in my current small-town area.
Coming from a panoramic landscape background entering the world of studio of flash, this threat beats hands down any research I have done on the net thus far. Congrats to you all.
You will have to excuse my ignorence when I ask this, but is it possible that JohnE and dennsyb could possibly let us know what ratios they have their flash strobes at for some of their shots and the distance they put the light source for the effects they are after. And if relevant the Fstop.
I have recently picked up myself two EL500 Elinchrom lights, they came with a 83 cm translucent umbrella, a 83cm silver (black backed) umbrella and small soft box.
Should I be looking for a larger umbrella or soft box in the area of 40 to 60 inch.
