Curious why your track lights are projecting hexagons on the walls? Must be those bright colored Beez causing a time/space warp or something. Didn't yo mama tell you you can't take good pitchers with weird colored lights?

WHAT a great thread, maybe I have overlooked the answer to my question, so here it goes anyway:-)
I have just ordered my first studio flash set, 2 150w Flash with white umbrellas, 1 softbox 60x90 cm, 1 snoot with color filters and a IR remote trigger. I haven't ordered a syncro cabel as I asume that the IR is enough to trigger both flash. Am I right or do I need the syncro cabel as well?
I also have an older Nikon SB-28, will it be possible to use that together with the studio flash?

Drew - nice! I like how you did the paint

Jørn - probably will work fine, especially in the studio. If your lights also have an optical slave, you will have two ways to fire the second light. You didn't say which IR trigger, and most people don't use IR triggers, so no one may be able to give you a better answer. Dedicated flashes can be used off camera, often by adding a hot shoe optical sensor.

Done with a single onboard flash

Setup "studio" shots here:
http://dpchallenge.com/how.php?HOW_ID=8

With enough effort, even the ghetto-iest setup can produce some good output!!

I have 2 AB400 strobes now, but no permanent studio..

Killer looking studio Chris. Must be nice to have all that room. Studio down stairs, gallery upstairs, and you must live on the third floor. I'm jelous. Thinking of converting the garage to a studio or taking over the front room. ( ). My kids live in Fairbanks. Nice country, Alaska. You have a nice looking website also. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Bill. Thanks for the kind words. Funny you should mention turning your garage into a studio. I had that a few years ago. Try living in Fairbanks and telling your wife she has to park outside all winter at -50 so you can have a studio! SHe welcomed the idea though

Sadghost, you might try out this one http://www.zuga.net/tv/
Under photography you can find some tutorials about lighting by Tim Kelly and a couple of others.

Here is my studio so far:

To the right is my wife's coffee shop, and to the left is my photo studio:

With one potential set up:
Each square is one square foot:

And here is a layout of the whole place:

One question I have is what kind of paint to use in the studio. It will have a 10' ceiling with white grid 2x2 tiles and the floor will be white oak.
I don't know if I should paint the walls white, 18% gray, black I am assuming I should use a flat paint to stop reflections and glare. Any help on color would be greatly appreciated!!

Also, if you would like to follow our construction/start-up process, check out:

Thanks,
JD
