p.1 #1 · The Ruby Throats

After what seems a long summer, a couple more Ruby Throats have arrived. The adult male, will sit for a while in the Crepe Myrtle tree . He seems to have laid claim to the back yard and runs off the female and the young male.

Hope to get more opportunities with them .

Your suggestions and comments are much appreciated.

Thank you for looking. Do hope you enjoy .

Birdie

1. A little flaring of the gorget when he sees the young male .

2. This land is mine

3. Female Ruby Throat

4. Juvenile Male - Notice the streaking on the throat

YAWN - I hope you are not bored by these pictures.

Great set, Birdie.

I love the second and the last captures. I think hummer's are the most amazing birds on the planet.

Thank you for sharing.

Well Birdie, you DUN it again! These are excellent images which I would be proud to call my own....if I could!

What lens were you using if I may ask?

And do you find the hummers are tolerant of your presence?
In my yard, despite having a feeder and numerous blossoms to which they are attracted, my presence seems to scare them away quickly even though I follow all the suggestions for photographing birds.

Thanks so much Alan.

I was using the 300mm f/4 P VR on all but one these . The last one had the 1.4 EIII TC with the 300mm.
I think the third one was with the 200-500mm.

It's funny, the adult male and the juvenile male are pretty tolerant . The female , not so much. As strange as it may seem, I find that if I have a green shirt on that blends with everything, they seem more tolerant. I also try not to move quickly. I do spend quite a bit of time just sitting and waiting for them to show up . Maybe they are just getting use to seeing me
