In the interests of going light and always having a camera with me — I’m pretty interested in pulling the trigger on a gr iii. I’m not interested in the gr iiix with the 40mm.
It’s been over three years now since the gr iii launched. Based on Ricohs development cycles, do you think we are close to a new one? Do you think the x has reset the clock and we are years away?
I’m hoping for a new higher resolution sensor, and weather proofing. A miracle would be offering a variant with a polarizer built in instead of a nd filter.
It would kill me if I bought one and then a new one was released a month later.
Any thoughts? The current model is great, but technology almost always marches on!

I would be interested to know as well. I've heard a lot of good things about the GR iii line and while I have no immediate plans to buy one, I would be interested in getting one further down the line.
The II was a minor update after two years, and the III came four years later. We really don't have enough versions to identify a release schedule. So who knows. Personally, I'd jump in now. It's about the best camera value out there today.

Buy a used one and you probably won’t get hit much on depreciation if they announce a new one. They’ll probably raise the price of a new model. It is a great camera. I just bought a GRiii used for a trip after not having one for a while and am reminded of how great a lens and camera it is. I’m finding the stabilization remarkable, with many shots at 1/4 to 1/2 sec sharp.

i actually wrote this camera off after watching the youtubers review it cause their samples were so bad.
but actually looking at FMers and what it can do i'm looking to pick one up, especially the GR3x
Welcome to the GR 3/3x aficionados!
I'm happy with both - sometimes it is difficult to choose between the 3 or 3x. The difference between 28mm and 40mm is not super significant for hiking / landscapes. It does make a difference for street.
They get used on occasions where I don't want to carry anything non-pocketable.
With cellphones getting much better as cameras, Ricoh will need to come up with something spectacular soon!
