Back in 2013 when I proudly held my freshly bought GR in my capable hands, I gratefully looked up into the evening sky and discovered one of those amazing flying animals that we call "Vögel" in Germany. I was so positively overwhelmed from this sight, that I received an inspiration. In the following years I was a photographer with a GR and a mission: capturing BIF (Birds in Flight)!
After missing quite a few birds in the first years (they are fast!) I finally captured one exemplar of this black species:
With its wide angle lens the GR is simply perfect for BIF-photography. With longer lenses the bird would be way faster out of the frame - and nothing than blue sky would be left!
My best BIF image so far is this:
Great, isn't it?
Two years ago, I even extended my main topic of photography to BIF (Balloons in Flight). Quite successful as you can see here:
My newest project now is BIF (Buildings in Flight). I saw a lot of these flying constructions lately and decided to extend my expertise even further. This is one of my first snapshots:
Therefore, don't be scared, try more BIF with your GRs!
@Mark: what about PIF (Planes in Flight) instead of POG (Planes on Ground)?
After not having a Ricoh in quite some time (but having lots of experience with the GRD, GRDIII and GRDIV as well as the GXR), I snagged one from the boards here just this week. I forgot how much fun it can be to shoot with one of these little guys. While the GR is no slouch, I do miss the "snappiness" of the later iterations of the GRD lineup, but the sensor of the newer APS-C GR is quite good and the tradeoffs are seeming to be worth it.
Here are a few "domestic" snaps from my first day or so with the camera:
Also... I had to do a sort of last minute blog post on a newly-released pen lineup from one of my favorite makers (they released earlier than I anticipated) and I didn't have any camera gear handy except for the GR. paired with a constant fluorescent studio light and a small tabletop tripod, I was able to get some decent product shots for the blog (the in-camera 35mm and 47mm "crop" modes came in handy as well):
Took a trip down to my old neighborhood in Charleston, SC with my wife and some new friends this weekend. We explored the city and then stopped off in Bowman, South Carolina on the way back to the Midlands and visited Mr. Jody Pendarvis and his UFO Welcome Center and Time Machine — which isn't completed yet, but when finished will be a multi-part machine above and below ground and will have the ability to expand and contract as he approaches (and potentially exceeds) light speed and then slows down again (his words, not mine).
Enjoy...
