p.1 #1 · Oh Death, won't you pass me over for another year...
We lost another great one last week, and quite likely the last of the first generation of bluegrass. I can't think of any others of that generation still around, but if you can, let us know. I saw Ralph play at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica sometime in the late 1980's and asked him if I could photograph him. This was right before his show at UC Riverside the next day. I sent him a few prints. He sent me back a few "cutout" LPs of his.

Thanks Chuck. I almost forgot about this until I heard he had died. Actually, there were issues with a lot of the images that I couldn't address until recently, which surprises me, seeing how long I've been drum scanning and photoshopping. I guess I'm just seeing things in a new light. It ain't perfect, but it is Ralph.

I was just watching "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" and it hit a sorrowful note in hearing "Oh Death" as it reminded me of my grandfather who loved and played bluegrass.
Dr. Stanley true to the art and he will be missed.
That picture grasps his spirit and soul wonderful shot.
