p.1 #1 · Snow in the Sugar Pine Forest, Australia

Snow is a rare event in this forest, which actually makes a great year-round photography location. Due to it's elevation (approx 1000m) it will only see snow a couple of times a year, generally - and when it does get it, sometimes there isn't much of it.

I was fortunate to be able to visit it after a fresh coat of snow had transformed it, and even more fortunate to get some great light while there.

Due to the nature of the location, a lot of DoF is required to achieve front-to-back focus. Shooting at 50mm I had to focus stack three images to get a sharp scene from the closest tree right through to the farthest.

Very nice shot. Have you thought about converting to B&W?

I have for some of the other frames captured on that morning. In this particular frame, given the sunburst and the golden light it creates I did not feel it would work as well. Some of the shots I took before the sun was very high though are almost B/W right out of the camera.

What an incredibly interesting image! Good on ya for seeing this and capturing it so well. I agree that this would look very nice in B&W.

Really cool shot, love how the downed trees reinforce the formal regularity of the rest of the shot.

Thanks everyone!

I processed a couple more shots from this morning. Actually got so many compositions that choosing a few is tough.

Great capture. All nice but the first is by far my favorite. Very strong, graphic image.
