From a video I saw, it takes 7 to 8 seconds to start up too. No good.

Much less harsh things than the people who create them. I mean, to some degree or other, all of us here have spent more on photography gear than we needed to.

I can only presume they're purchased either more-money-than-sense amateurs looking more for a conversation piece or bragging rights than the best photographic tool, or an investor who thinks they'll become collector's items.

I don't think there's anything wrong with SE's. If you're Leica, a nicely co-branded SE can probably fill the R&D coffers with money exploited from the collector's market. To me, that's fine, since it has nothing to do with photographers or photography

Things like this aren't aimed at the collector's market. They're just trying to increase their profit margin by gouging interested photographers with an overpriced option on the same camera if they don't want to carry around their shiny silver camera. Leica does the same thing (in reverse) with their lenses and it's crap. So if Hasselblad wants to be respected like Leica, fine by me. I'll never buy anything new from them either.

To be fare with Leica, other than some insane price for limit edition. Their silver lens made by copper hence ask for more price to black. The new silver lens made by same aluminum ask for the same price.

I know two people that have the X1D already, and I spotted one random FS post like two weeks or three weeks ago. So I'm surprised it isn't shipping or is delayed or whatever.

I'm still REALLY REALLY tossed. On one hand I want the X1D special edition BLACK, simply because it looks cool. Same reason why I still shoot with my Leica M :P And I think the X1D ergonomics are cool and smart. But yeah, now that I've seen the all black one. I wouldn't buy the silver one. AND I wouldn't pay the premium for the all black one.. So see below:

On the other hand I think the Fuji GFX will be a better camera all around.. I mean everything about it is better save for the looks/design. I'll be able to shoot street, people, even weddings from the looks of how fast the AF is. And how well rounded the lineup will be by 2017s end. That and I'm having a great old time with the X-T2. I even got ahold of a 23/2 earlier then expected and it's a crazy fun walk around lens paired with the 35/2 (one on camera, one in jacket pocket, easy). So maybe easier to just buy into the whole Fuji ecosystem. Share the same flashes... That's a plus!

Anyone get the X1D yet on the forums?

Hasselblad are pretty much using the first customers as beta testers and want to make sure no major issues show up before releasing the camera more widely.

Delay after delay (which I called months back) shows the camera was not really close to ready when announced.

Yeah, I've talked to one owner and he's not happy. The other is MIA (on a long photo tour).

Are you sure about that, Michael? B&H, who may have the specs wrong for all I know, still show a $200 price difference between the black and silver Summilux-M 50, despite showing their weight being the same.

Looks you are right
Let's just say it is not as obvious bad as Haasy. At least they charge the same for silver or black M.

I'd say there was certainly a rush to market. It's funny, I was thinking back on the announcement video when they talked about X1D being their product with their lenses, but making it clear they were still in good relations with Fuji and how they'd just returned from a meeting with them. It makes me wonder if Hassy lost a coin toss at the meeting and had to go first.

Still, how often do we get used as beta testers now when so many manufacturers are vying for our attention and money? I think forums like this have been, to a degree, proving grounds for all of the mirrorless platforms as they were made available. There just hasn't been this large a price tag associated with being a beta tester, and that changes expectations.

No you were right the first time. Leica announced almost two years ago that they were going to start making the silver lenses out of the same alloy as the black ones. And were no longer making them out of brass.

Anyway, I don't know if they've switched over or not. As I never buy silver lenses. They probably didn't switch but just scared people to make more sales :P

Things to also note:

1) Leica's Photokina S.E. sets and Japan sets were titanium (top and bottom plate AFAIK). One of the sets had two titanium lenses BUT the lenses weren't made from TI, just coloured to look like they were. Unlike some previous TI sets which featured TI material lenses.

1.1) The S.E. cameras of the past (not always) had lenses made of material that matched the bodies. For instance the stainless steel sets or all brass sets....

2) Leica makes S.E. black lenses once in a while, and they're usually brass

It seems like (and this may not be true, I've never counted) the M240 holds the record of special or limited editions even though cameras like the M6 and M7 had much longer runs Seriously though so many SE M240 cameras out there I can't keep count!

To also be fair to Leica, I agree that a lot of companies have been using photographers as beta testers lately.
But man at the price point Leica charges (and Hassy), they really shouldn't do that. I can see if Sony wants to try something new, and even Fuji because of the price point (even though both companies aren't that cheap)..

But Hassy and Leica really really shouldn't do that. Either should Phase one or Leaf etc.

Customers as beta testers will be the new norm. And not just in cameras. Adobe and Apple both make public betas available and thousands of people volunteer to be paying testers.

It'll become increasingly the norm too. Once upon a time camera companies spent months wondering what features to put in what cameras. Now with firmware they can upgrade as they go based on customer feedback.

There's always a positive side. And that is it'll become the norm for the companies to look at upgrades and new features after a camera is released. In the past some dodgy firmware has been left for years unfixed (quiet shutter in the M9 for example, still isn't fixed) but now firmware does get looked at. Plus companies can add features to become competitive when another comes out.

Customers as beta testes works for some markets but if it's something aimed at a professional user/ market (and the beta status is not revealed to the customer beforehand), that could be death to a company's rep in the long run. Professional users will not put up with being beta testers (unknown) when a job is at stake.

Agree.. This is how I feel with the Leica S-system (especially the S-007), and to some extent the SL and to lesser extent the M. Lost trust, lost faith whatever but it's negative.

I don't mind if the camera is good.. But small little things could be improved and having a company listen to feedback like Fuji. And then implementing said feedback. That's cool, that's a plus!

But having a 7 second startup and then having a company tell you they'll fix it, along with other things and then just not fixing them on the expensive camera.. That's scary.

I am very interested in how well the H to X adapter works. The 150mm HC lens is something I want to adapt to the X1D. Has anyone seen the adapter or tried it?

At this point, I do not think that any of our FM members has seen a production camera.

I called Adorama and B&H yesterday. The X1D has been delayed again. New estimated availability date is DECEMBER 1. You have to wonder what the problem is with this camera that they can't get it released. This can't all be about the earthquake issues in Japan. Hasselblad must be encountering issues that they can't easily resolve. Seems like this is going to be a 2017 launch at this point.

The latest news on a delay said beginning of November and Adorama say 25th of October on their site. Funny how you come here and registerer at fm jut to say it is even further delayed. Trolling?
