There were some gulls out and about and the chicks and parents were very on guard from time to time when they were flying buy, however they walked right past me coming and going so close I couldn't focus in them. What worked for me was stay low and little to no movement.

HA! Yes I left around the same time. There was a large group of photogs near the shore and they (parents and chicks) came up once again but on the wrong side of me. Looks like a group to my left (east of me) got some nice images but I was closed out that time (no sense shooting into the sun). I stayed put so I would not spook the chicks or piss off the photogs! . I was the guy in the Nikon hat who got no shots!
I shot these about 45min or so before the group came up, I was alone at the time.

no wonder the morning light is delicious
i definitely remember seeing you at the extreme west side of the cluster, with the light colored shirt. I was the one laying on the beach to your left with the others. I was dying of jealousy when the chicks walked close to you and the others on my right ( Glenn, etc.)

Yep that was me the old fart! lol
We were all given a treat yesterday, the OC's were not threatened by the photographers who all were very respectful of them. I was actually proud of all the photogs who were so respectful yesterday morning....well done!
I was actually chastised on another forum for "disturbing the wildlife" I posted the first image there in the bird forum. Here is the link;
Nothing cold be further from the truth. If you are respectful to wildlife they will let you into their world and give you these special treats. I have been lucky in this regard for many, many years with my camera because of being respectful. I was in that same spot for over an hour or more yesterday and my back is reminding me today! :-)
