p.1 #1 · Canon Canada Warranty

I just purchased a new 1DX body from a place in NYC that only includes a Canon Canada Warranty. Is this the same camera as those with the USA warranty? Would the USA Canon group honor the warranty? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is it not a North American warranty?

Why don't you ask the place you bought it from, or CanonUSA?

It is exactly the same camera as would be marketed with a US warranty. It's odd that it comes with only a Canon Canada warranty. Sounds like you bought from a "grey market" seller. In Canada, the warranty card doesn't mean squat; you have to show a copy of the original invoice for warranty coverage, not the warranty card.

If you want to know about warranty coverage, you should follow Tony's suggestion and ask Canon USA; their position is the only one that counts in this situation. OTOH, I'd be inclined to wait it out. If it does require warranty service, I'd simply send it in with a copy of the receipt, and expect it to work out OK. Of course, that might not work if the seller isn't an authorised Canon dealer. AFAIK, you'd be totally out of luck with a grey market Nikon camera, but I don't think Canon is quite as restrictive in their approach.

I have purchased both in Canada and the US. I have shipped stuff purchased in Canada to the US for servicing many times.

It's my understanding that the 1Dx (and presumably the 1Dx II) are unique among Canon's products in that the warranty is only valid in the country of purchase, while all other Canon gear in North America has dual Canada/USA warranty. So while the camera will be exactly the same, the warranty may not be.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I have contacted the seller and Canon. Have not heard back from the seller but the gent at Canon told me this morning that the warranty would be good in either country as long as I purchased from an authorized Canon dealer and had the receipt showing the purchase/date. He said this only applied to US and Canada purchases only, other countries did not apply.

Did you ask Canon if the place you bought it from is an authorized dealer?

Canada and the US are designated as in the same region so the warranty is good for both as long as purchased from an Authorized dealer.

Yes, the purchase was through Amazon which is an authorized dealer so anyone fulfilling an order on their behalf would be covered according to the gent at Canon. Thanks again.

purchased "through amazon" from another seller/reseller or "fulfilled" by amazon? if not fulfilled by amazon, then you had better confirmed the "ny seller" is an authorized dealer.

Fulfilled by Amazon does not mean it was a authorized dealer! I ship items to Amazon all the time and they are sold as fulfilled by Amazon, but that does not guarantee that I'm a authorized dealer. All that means is that Amazon stores and ships the item for the seller.

This kind of incorrect information can cause someone a lot of trouble.

Even if a item says that it is sold by and ships from Amazon, that does not guarantee that its genuine. The reason is that Amazon puts products from various sellers into the same bin, and ships from that bin. This has been a big issue, since buyers have received counterfeit merchandise bought from a reputable seller because some crooked seller shipped his counterfeit stuff to Amazon for them to throw in the bin to sell.

Amazon calls it comingled inventory, your inventory is mixed with that of others. Not a good idea!! A seller can opt out of the comingled inventory, and I do opt out.

So, 8 months after you buy something, past the Amazon return period, the item fails and you find you have bought gray market, used, or a fake. You are out of luck!

http://www.wsj.com/articles/on-amazon-pooled-merchandise-opens-door-to-knockoffs-1399852852

Amazon says the issue has been fixed or reduced, but they do not tell you they will make good on a counterfeit item if you discover it 6 months after its delivered.

my comment is only an extension of what the poster had confirmed with canon that amazon is an authorized dealer.

thus, "fulfilled by amazon" implied the onus is on amazon to ensure the authenticity of the product it "fulfilled" met the advertised description, which in this case a body destined for north america.

My opinion, buy your 1dx from B&H or Adorama. Escentially, the customer will get the correct warranty card and proper product. No risk of comingled inventory or fulfilled by Amazon confusion.

Just me but, i don't buy high ticket items like this from Amazon.
