Went on an epic trip in 2007 to Antarctica, South Georgia island, and Faulklands with him and 50 photographers that he organized. Was a great learning experience as well as a chance to better know him.
So sad to hear this news.
So sorry to hear this. It was one of his early video tutorials that got me going with Adobe Lightroom. A sad day. RIP may the Buddhas and Bodhisatvas watch over him
When I built my web site I asked his permission to use his quote when he reviewed one of my images. He gave me his blessing. That quote of his is still proudly displayed on my home page:
"A lovely Image produced with impeccable technique." Michael Reichmann, noted Canadian Landscape Photographer, Author, and Teacher; February 2001.

This is really sad. Always enjoyed his writing and images on LL, and bought some of the videos which were excellent. Seems like he had a great, productive life though.
His website in its heyday was a great resource and his reasonableness and writing style that many other "reviewer" websites could take a lesson from. I visited his gallery when he was promoting the Sony a900 after his Antarctic trip in December 2008. I was shocked how genuinely friendly and engaging he was. I also got a chance to chat with him on a Sony owners event that travelled to regional water falls in October 2009.
Yes Michael was a true sport. He even took time to write a foreword to a small book I took part in publishing here in Iceland few years ago. Very kind of him to do so.
Discovering Michael's website Luminous Landscape took me from attempts at making prints to making truly fine art prints - without which I never would have considered myself a photographer.
I recall in one of his videos how he mentioned that being out on the web subjected people such as himself to (I'm paraphrasing) mean rhetoric from time to time. I couldn't understand anyone ever getting angry with this man who so generously provided people with detailed descriptions of how to bring their inspirations to the level of making beautiful photographs.
Thank you Michael, and as others have said; the world is a better place having had you be part of it.
You are missed.
I had the pleasure of working with Michael during my tenure at Atari. Michael's LuLa was one of my first discoveries when I returned to photography. Thanks Michael, for all the great articles! RIP
