Ha! Thanks Mitesh, means a lot.
Less than 6 weeks and we return to Florida so I can continue studies of the M1ii for BIF.
So, is there now a consensus on using the PL100-400 with the M1ii
IBIS on or off ??
Lens stabilization one or off??
I think (if remembering correctly) best is IBIS on and lens stabilization off.
I do remember that the len's range limit is to be set to full.

I would agree that the IBIS does a better job of stabilizing than the lens OIS.

MM, really sharp image with a nice background, for my taste I would like a bit more breathing room but YMMV!

C/C please.
Or just give it a glance and move on.
I seem to have the PL100-400 glued to the M1ii, but lately I've been revisiting the 40-150/2.8.
Is there not a replacement part for when I want to remove the ridiculous tripod foot on the 40-150Pro? I looked at the Oly site but didn't see it
I guess I can see someone using a tripod but I haven't that I recall and that foot is way unwieldy for me.

Great head angle, nice detail in the feathers....beautiful multi-toned yet smooth background. Perch is "okay"...that is my only criticism!! Next time ask him to move to a better perch please

By the way anyone who likes getting critiqued should head over to BirdPhotographers.net....

IMO, the Presentation forums don't need to be about critiques. If one wants critiques in that forum then one should but C&C welcomed in their post. If I see that I'll leave some feedback but if I don't I will comment if I like the image and ignore it if I don't.

It's hard to fault this shot actually. It's a clean shot with no distracting branches and stuff around, and the composition is good. Only way it could be better is if you got real lucky and the Chicadee prances around, stretches its feathers or do something out of the ordinary, as an action shot is always more interesting. So there is not much more that you can do to make it any better. It's a good image, Robert.

p.77 #5 · Olympus E-M1 Mk II

Good evening to all,
Thank you for not taking my sarcasm to extreme. I was really playing along with the post in front of me trying to be funny for the most part but I also felt the post in front of me made a valid point. I have had a ton of help here along with a couple of small doses of stupid and that risk reward ratio is favorable most days. There was a day not long ago that I posted on landscape a pretty bad effort and asked if the subject belonged in that section. I was chewed up and spit out by a long time FMer and then he was validated by someone I had a lot of respect for as a poster and teacher. I will own the fact that I was too thin skinned that day and I had a difficult time understanding the two post. I wanted to explain that while some here are amazing talents and do professional work others of us here are professionals in other fields and have neither the time nor expertise to post at the level of the best work here. I think all of us appreciate CC but that should be provided IMO along with common courtesy and respect.
Ultimately, my post was largely tongue and cheek and I appreciate that I think most took it that way. I also appreciate the time others have given and continue to give to me as I stumble through this hobby. I am decent to excellent at disease state treatment and management. I am decent doing bite work and obedience with some dog breeds. I am often not so good at taking pictures.....but I love trying and I love seeing the work of others here!
Sincerely,
Greg

Thanks Geoff, Bobby, Bob. All points noted Yes if they'd only listen to me....

Gregg I think your comment/observations were well taken. Plus my skin is thick and leathery. It is an interesting mix here at FM of amateurs and professionals, I'm thankful for that, and like Geoff says all we have to do is ask and the chewing can begin.

You do realize though that there are many that need the avenue of critique in their life, a reason to exist if you will, justification for existence even (now I'm going down the tongue-in-cheek road a bit Personally, I get enough peer review here in the hospital in one night to last a lifetime!

But here's the thing at FM. If you really want to puzzle out something photographic there are just so many who truly want to help and not for reason of self aggrandizement--just the goodness of their heart.

To me the4re are basically three kinds of bird pictures:
1. "Artistic" (like my group of pigeons racing back and forth for the pure fun of it) where the feeling and mood and graphic composition are the main things.
2. Bird pictures, where the bird is part of a pleasing graphic composition, (Robert's Chickadee above)
3. Pictures of birds, where the bird is really the only important thing, and graphic considerations are left by side. Technical quality is sometimes the most important aspect, though it can also be unimportant as in shots for ID and collection purposes.

Naturally there are gray areas in between...

Greg sorry that happened.
I don't visit Landscape or NW as much as I used to but you should keep on doing what you enjoy and present them.
I enjoy NW as critiques can be had, but overall I feel everyone is just having fun being out there.
I am careful what I present on Landscape, but one should not be shied away with something they deliberately envisioned and are proud to share.

Camera arrived this morning, battery is charged. Now to spend the next 3 weeks or so figuring out the menu options

Seriously, I've been shooting m4/3 since the G1 and I browsed the manual before the camera came in, but wow that's a lot of customizing that can be done. PDF version of the manual highly recommended for the search function to find what you need.

IMHO the E-M1.2 menu seems better organized than the ones in E-M1, E-M5, and E-M5.2.

Bobby, we could start a competition filling in the blank for: How much fun was it?
It was so much fun that ... blank ...
Johnny Carson used to play that game. .

Haven't been in this country long enough to know that game. But it was so much fun that I am thinking of doing it again with my higher-resolution lenses like the Nocticron or 300/4 PRO LENS to see if I can pull even more detail from a heavy crop.

I shot some today with the M1ii, the SCP is my best friend on this camera. It is even better than the Fx menu on the Sonys. The lever is my next best friend on this new Olympus. Between those two I would only have to menu dive for something really unusual like that high megapixel landscape thing I haven't tried yet.
Really when I look back at my hate of Oly menus it was truly unfounded.

I do have a nit someone might help me with.
Camera held away from face, I press 'play' wanting the image to viewable by the time I get the camera up to my eye...all I see is viewfinder view until I press play again. Just me? Cant this be beat? Minor nit though.

Lets start a 'detail' competition.....not really to win, no medals to be issued....just to motivate at least me to put the Nocticron on and have a go.
The original and then the crop as the individuals discretion
Shame, the long lenses never leave the M1ii, there's 23 mFT lenses here
I know Poof would like the challenge.

I think the menu system will be fine, I just need to get past the initial setup. Lots of buttons to be programmed, after that I think you are right, I don't think menu diving will be very necessary. I believe the high resolution mode can be accessed from the HDR button on the top right.

Mitech you suddenly have a best friend (ME), how do you do this (8percent off Ebay)? What is your magic. I'm looking at a Sony 500/4 and that would be right at $800 off! PLEASE show me the magic dust you wield!!
