First time posting some of my D500 shots! Excuse some of the noise correction. I had processed them for social media use. Heavy crops on all the birds.
Nice pictures # had to smile and almost laugh about the first one, very cute!
Are these images straight out of the camera, post processed, or anything done to them?
I find the grainy backgrounds really off-putting and wonder as to the settings that you used?

I thought so as well.
Let's take a look at the Hummingbird as an example:
- original size is 2443 x 1629 / uploaded to FM is 1600 x 1067. So that 'should' rule out any issues created by upsizing the image
- image was shot at ISO 800, 1/2000s, f/4
- image was shot in 14bit RAW
- image was post processed with some adjustments made to Contrast (+30), Highlights (-30), Shadows (+30)
- image was post processed Adobe Lightroom CC
- no adjustments were made to Sharpness or Noise Reduction
I went ahead and applied some Noise Reduction and swapped out the image files. Still learning as I go.
Man, they're heaps better!
I'm certainly no expert but I would be careful using a global adjustment to the Contrast slider, you can get better results playing around with the other sliders in Lightroom. . .
