Awesome photos everyone.
A couple of surf shots from Northshore Oahu.
I purposely shot these backlit to see what is possible with the D500 and 200-500mm lens.
Here are several images taken with the Nikon D500 over the last week. The first two were taken with the Nikkor 300mm f4 PF lens (with the latest Nikkor 1.4x teleconverter attached). The second two were taken with the Nikkor 800mm lens. That latter combination will test your tracking skills at times.

D500 + 400 f2.8E FL VR + 1.4x TCIII, 1/640s f/5.6 at 550.0mm iso400, effective focal length, 840mm CROPPED BY ABOUT 60%, so only about 40% of photo left!
And the bar is raised again... getting a clean, sharp capture of a very dark and non-contrasting, highly erratic moving purple mountain... just, wow.

I'm a traditionalist. I hold the door open for little old ladies, like my cars to have a clutch, and hate the sound of aluminum bats. And I take pictures of cats with new cameras. Here's Doug, the camera hating cat, who has grumpily had his picture taken by a 1DIII, 7D, D300, D700, D3, D750 and now a D500. Blue glow is from a teevee.
